About Waterloo

Waterloo is quickly becoming “the” suburb of Sydney. It’s transforming from an industrial neighborhood to one that is filled with chic neighborhoods, urban adventure, shopping, dining, and recreation. It’s located close to the central business district in the capital city of New South Wales. The suburb acquired its name from the Battle of Waterloo when the English defeated Napoleon Bonaparte and the French forces in 1815.

In the early years, it was home to a paper mill, flour mill, and other industrial businesses. Today, technology firms and others are located here, the housing areas have been revitalized, and the city made an investment in green spaces. About 14,600 people live here and many others work in the businesses or visit for dining and recreation options.

Architecture is a mixture of Victorian terrace houses and modern buildings with apartments. There are also pubs considered “old-school” for their authentic look and feel alongside hip and modern restaurants and bars. The Danks Street area is a popular place for shopping and includes antique stores and a variety of home goods stores.

Attractions in Waterloo

There are a lot of choices when it comes to attractions in Waterloo. Some think the suburb isn’t as attractive as those that are close to the water, but Waterloo has a few surprises for them. The city invested in green spaces and revitalization and there are plenty of attractions that keep people coming back for entertainment, whether it’s one of the many outdoor recreation venues or the rugby games in Allianz Stadium.

  • Moore Park
Moore Park is part of the Entertainment Quarter, and there’s an awful lot of entertainment packed into these 115 hectares, but you’ll also feel like you have plenty of space to get away from it all. It hosts the farmers’ market and a variety of concerts and events. You can play golf here, go horseback riding, or try go-karting. There are restaurants and parklands for a leisurely walk or some time in nature. Moore Park is so much more than a park; you’ll be planning a return trip.

  • Sydney Cricket Ground
Football and rugby may draw big crowds, but cricket is the one sport that all Australians love and that unifies the people. The Sydney Cricket Ground has a long and interesting history starting in the 1800s and today is surrounded by seven grandstand structures, each a part of that history. Other sports enthusiasts need not worry, the Sydney Cricket Ground has also hosted rugby matches, tennis, motor racing, empire games, football, and major league baseball from the United States.

  • Fernside Skatepark
Waterloo is home to Fernside Skatepark, the first in the city of Sydney with a full street style. Local skaters were part of the design team, bringing in the best features from skate parks around the world to create the skatepark in Waterloo. Skaters appreciate the ample space for everyone to spread out, and their favorite features, including the stairs, banks, ledges, and blocks. Renovations and further investments have kept Fernside Skatepark as one of the preeminent skateparks available.

Production Locations in Waterloo

An uptick in production locations in Waterloo has coincided with the suburb’s transformation into a popular residential, business, and recreation area. There are production locations available for filming and photoshoot locations in Waterloo that rival those found in any other part of Sydney.

  • Studio Spaces
Renovations in factories and other industrial spaces included creating studio spaces that can be used for a variety of projects. There are also spaces available in newer buildings that allow producers to use the proximity to the business district and all that Sydney has to offer. Studio space has the lighting, sound, and equipment needed to walk in the door and get to work, maximizing your time and making your project more efficient.

  • Hotels
A hotel space can quickly transform from a blank slate into any type of production location needed. The professionals in Waterloo can help make the switch for you if you share your vision and goals with their team. One of the benefits of using a hotel is all the infrastructure already in place and much of the equipment you may need to rent is also on-premises already.

  • Restaurants
Restaurants may seem an unlikely production location but that’s not the case in Waterloo. A restaurant has the lighting, space, and often the sound system needed for most production projects. Renting a restaurant space during its off-hours or when it's closed lets you take advantage of the unique architecture and design that many of the spaces in Waterloo have as well.

Event and Meeting Venues in Waterloo

Event and meeting venues in Waterloo are popular with trendy professionals, corporate planners, and family gatherings because the suburb offers so much of the best that Sydney has to offer. The local eateries, outdoor locations, and buildings become the perfect meeting spaces or party venues in Waterloo.

  • Hotels and Motels
Finding a wedding venue can feel like a bigger job than finding the perfect person to marry. The hotels and motels in Waterloo are ideal for use as a wedding venue because of their proximity to the Entertainment Quarter and so many of the options that can make that special day even more memorable. The in-house catering option as well as add-ons from local eateries create mouth-watering menus.

  • Dining Rooms
Smaller meetings and events, whether it’s a strategic planning session or baby shower venue in Waterloo, often book a dining room. These private rooms in established restaurants or eateries give an intimate and personal touch to an event whose goal is to foster community. The catering options are also top-notch with customizable menus for the event at hand.

  • Gardens and Outdoor Locations
The added bonus of Waterloo’s investment in greenspaces is more options for using gardens and outdoor locations as event or meeting spaces. Some of these privately owned locations rival the beauty and elegance of any found around the world. They also offer the flexibility to move indoors or provide shade and cooling as needed.
