This bar was perfect for the location we needed. Cici and Sam were great to work with and accommodating. For an old-looking bar with a "five" niche you can't beat the price or location. Would recommend 100%! Keep in mind typically you can't go past 10pm. However there's only one window so you can easily just cheat day for night with a fabric. Overall great experience. Our shots look awesome. Would return again for the character vibe and atmosphere of the place! Thanks Cici and Sam!

About Colonial Locations

Colonial locations can be great places to host an event. Depending on the size of the event, these places can offer various amenities and activities that will impress your guests. Colonial locations have a unique and classic style that can add character and charm to any event.

Homes built in the colonial era often feature wide porches and white-washed walls with large windows covered in wooden shutters. The architecture is classic and timeless, making it a great backdrop for any event. Inside, you’ll find high ceilings, decorative fireplaces, wooden floors, and antique furniture combining to create an air of sophistication.

In addition to the architecture, colonial locations may also offer views of nature. You might see rolling hills or lush valleys from your porch or window as you host your celebration. These exquisite scenes can make for breathtaking memories for your guests long after the event is over.

For larger events such as weddings or parties, many colonial locations have outdoor spaces where guests can wander around lawns filled with greenery and flowers or enjoy a scenic walk around a pond or lake. Some colonial homes may even have historic gardens or old barns that could serve as rustic backdrops for photos or decoration pieces during the party.

Colonial locations are truly unique places to host an event that captures sophisticated beauty while still leaving room to embrace nature’s beauty. Their classic style and outdoor landscaping will ensure guests have excellent memories of your special occasion.

The Best Events for Colonial Locations

  • Period Dramas
Step back in time with a period drama event held at a colonial location. Guests can dress in authentic costumes and participate in traditional activities such as quilting, candle-making, and spinning wheels. Vendors can be on hand to provide props, fixtures, and decorations that will add to the colonial atmosphere. An interactive play or performance could also be included for entertainment purposes.
  • Tea Parties
A classic tea party is an excellent option for events held at colonial locations. Guests can sip their drinks from vintage teacups while sampling traditionally made foods such as scones, muffins, finger sandwiches, and other delectable treats. An added level of fun can be had by having guests participate in activities like rollerskating, croquet, or 18th-century dances like the Virginia Reel. The event can also feature live music for a more festive atmosphere.
  • Ghost Tours
For those who enjoy the spooky side of history, a ghost tour is an ideal event to host at a colonial location. Guests can hear true tales of hauntings from knowledgeable guides in costumes as they explore the venue's dark hallways and secret rooms, all while keeping safe with glow sticks. The ghost tour could even conclude with s’mores around a bonfire so everyone can relax after the frightful journey.
  • Wedding Ceremonies
A colonial location can be the perfect backdrop for wedding ceremonies. Hosts can create a romantic and timeless atmosphere with vintage decorations, antique furnishings, and traditional music. A marquee or tent near the venue could provide additional space for guests to mingle before and after the ceremony. The event could also include activities that honor the colonial era, such as a quilting bee or hayride.

What to Look for in Colonial Locations

  • Historical Significance
Colonial locations often have rich historical backgrounds that provide fascinating stories. It is important to consider the history of the area and its relevance to the event. For example, if hosting a Revolutionary War-themed event, finding a location with ties to the war would be ideal. Researching the area's architectural styles and cultural influences can further enrich the experience.
  • Accessibility
Not only should one consider how accessible a location is for guests and staff but also for delivery services and any additional vendors necessary to ensure a successful event. Moreover, if transportation is limited from specific areas, coordinate with local businesses or public transportation services to guarantee maximum attendance and minimize hassle for participants.
  • Proximity to Necessities
When selecting a colonial location for an event, it is crucial to ensure nearby places can provide necessities like food and drinks, restrooms, first aid supplies, etc. Depending on the resources available in the area of choice, bringing these items with you or sourcing them from elsewhere may even be necessary.
  • Safety Considerations
Hosting an event at any location requires assessing potential safety risks beforehand. This is especially true when dealing with colonial buildings, as they can contain hazardous objects or materials due to age and structure. An experienced team should evaluate every aspect of safety before opening doors for attendees, including checking the structural integrity of facilities and compliant fire exits routes in case of emergency.

How to Make Colonial Events Better

  • Parking Area: Ensure the colonial location has enough parking and space for the event. Since colonial sites may provide less space than modern venues, it is vital to factor in the size of guests and equipment when planning an event. Consider renting out additional space or having a larger venue nearby to accommodate the overflow.

  • Early Booking and Planning: Popular colonial locations can fill up quickly, so plan and book soon to get the date you want. Ensuring you have the perfect spot for your event will save you time, hassle, and money in the long run.

  • Amenities Available: Research what amenities are available at the location before making any commitments regarding catering or decorations for the event. Colonial buildings often require special considerations regarding lighting or power supply. Hence, it's important to know beforehand what type of equipment is available for use at the location.

  • Security and Restrictions: Ensure appropriate security measures are in place during the event, particularly if you're expecting a large crowd or if alcohol will be served at your event. As a historical landmark, there may be restrictions on who can enter or where they can go during your gathering- make sure everyone in attendance is aware of these regulations ahead of time so there are no surprises on the day of.

  • Vendors Involvement: Hire experienced vendors that understand how to work with colonial locations effectively and efficiently while keeping their budget aligned with yours. This includes professional caterers, photographers, florists, entertainers, etc., who know how to navigate such unique spaces without compromising quality or safety standards- this will help ensure efficiency and ensure that your guests walk away with an unforgettable experience.
