This space was everything we could have dreamed of. We shot a fall clothing campaign outdoors and easily had access to bathrooms and space inside to set base camp. The sun glowed perfectly and the huge outdoor space was perfect for our shoot. Chase was so helpful and we would highly recommend using his space!

About Vintage Photoshoot

Vintage photoshoot locations are unique settings that transport participants back in time, providing a rich tapestry of textures and aesthetics that can't be replicated with modern decor. These venues often feature classic architecture, antique furnishings, and an aura of nostalgia that is highly sought after by event hosts, planners, photographers, and guests.

Each location boasts its own character, with elements like aged brick walls, hardwood floors, and period-specific props that collectively tell a story. Photographers appreciate the depth and authenticity these spaces bring to their images, accentuating the mood with natural light filtering through old windows or the dramatic contrast provided by vintage chandeliers.

Guests and event hosts are drawn to the timeless charm and elegance of a vintage setting. They delight in the exclusivity, often feeling as though they've stepped into a secret part of history. The locations offer a sense of escapism, creating spaces that inspire curiosity and wonder in every corner.

Such venues serve a dual purpose — they are both the canvas and the muse for creativity, coveted for their ability to add appeal and distinction to any event or photoshoot.

The Best Vintage Photoshoot Locations

Step into a realm where time reverses its course encapsulated within the frames of a vintage photoshoot. Envision spaces steeped in nostalgia, each corner a testament to ages past, offering more than just a backdrop but an immersive experience in a bygone era.

  • Historical Mansions and Estates
Historical mansions and estates serve as exquisite settings, oozing old-world elegance that is perfect for capturing the essence of past decades. Elaborate architecture, antique furnishings, and sprawling gardens are hallmarks of these venues. A photoshoot here might involve elaborate dining setups or classic lawn games, with guests adorned in vintage attire. The sense of grandeur they offer is unparalleled; however, their booking costs can be considerable, and they often require advanced reservations due to their popularity and limited availability.
  • Classic Car Garages
Classic car garages whisk you away to a time when automobiles were not merely modes of transportation but symbols of craftsmanship and status. These spaces offer a striking contrast of gleaming chrome against rustic interiors. Photoshoots can pivot around the timeless beauty of these vintage machines, with models posing as if in mid-journey or enjoying an upscale picnic nearby. While these garages provide an edgy and distinctive canvas, their space can sometimes be restrictive, limiting group sizes and the scope of activities.
  • Retro Diners and Cafés
Retro diners and cafés recreate the spirited vibe of the '50s and '60s. With checkered floors, jukeboxes, and neon signs, these venues are ideal for vibrant, colorful photoshoots that feel energetic. Portraying casual dining scenes or dancing to rock-n-roll adds dynamism to the stills. On the downside, such venues might necessitate business closures to accommodate a private shoot, leading to higher fees to compensate for lost trade.
  • Abandoned Industrial Sites
Abandoned industrial sites offer a gritty and unexpected venue for vintage photoshoots. Their worn textures and decaying structures are ideal for evoking compelling imagery with depth and narrative. Outfitted with the right props, such as period-specific fixtures or clothing, the shoot can harness the aura of forgotten times. Safety can be a concern in such environments, necessitating rigorous checks and potentially additional insurance.

What to Look for in Vintage Photoshoot Locations

When the past beckons with its timeless allure, a vintage photoshoot can capture the essence beautifully. Yet, the enigma of yesteryears demands a perfect backdrop. The pursuit of such a space involves meticulous and exciting considerations, like a treasure hunt. Here's what to unfurl on your quest:

  • Size of the Location
The grandeur of vintage eras can't be cramped in a space too small—or allowed to echo emptily in one too vast. Seek a location that accommodates your team, equipment, and thematic stations without crowding but still offers zones of intimacy for close-ups. Remember, the size should complement the intimacy of the event while allowing for the grandeur of the vintage theme.
  • Layout and Accessibility
From speakeasy bars with secret alcoves to ballrooms with sweeping staircases, the layout must lend itself to a storyboard of eras bygone. Ensure smooth transitions between scenes, not just for models and crew, but also for gear and equipment. And each element, from the grand piano in the corner to the velvet drapes, must be accessible yet never an obstacle along the creative pathway.
  • Style and Aesthetics
To truly capture the vintage vibe, the environment must resonate with the period. Whether it's Art Deco opulence or mid-century minimalism, the style should echo the epoch you wish to resurrect through your lens. Details matter; the more authentic the milieu—from the wallpaper patterns to the lattice on the lampshades—the more prosperous the narrative stitched through each photograph.
  • Services, Amenities, and Permits
Even as time is turned back visually, modern conveniences must sustain production. Inquire about lighting setups, electrical outputs, furniture, and prop availability. Restrooms, dressing areas, and, if applicable, catering spaces are essential. Woven seamlessly into the initial checklist must be the tapestry of regulations. Secure the necessary permits early on since the bureaucracy is an aspect that defiantly resists the charm of times past.

Vintage Photoshoot Inspiration

Step back in time with a tasteful nod to the past and sprinkle your present moments with a touch of nostalgia. A vintage photoshoot captures the essence of a bygone era, creating timeless memories wrapped in classic elegance. Here are several carefully thought-out ideas for your themed photoshoot, transporting you to a different epoch.

  • Roaring Twenties Speakeasy
Transpose of a hidden corner of your venue into a 1920s speakeasy with dim lighting, jazz music playing softly in the background, and period-appropriate props like feather boas, pearls, and fedora hats. The Prohibition-era ambiance will create a captivating setting for your photoshoot with a bar cart and vintage glassware.
  • Victorian Garden Party
A manicured garden with a gazebo draped in white lace would make a picturesque setting for a Victorian-era photoshoot. Think elaborate floral arrangements, vintage tea sets on lace tablecloths, and participants in corseted dresses and waistcoats. The lush tableau of nature entwined with refined Victorian elegance will create enchanting snapshots.
  • '50s Soda Fountain
Replace the ordinary diners and cafés with an at-home '50s soda fountain setup featuring a pastel color scheme, checkered floors, and a jukebox. Decorate with sundae glasses, vinyl records, and classic soda fountain stools. This cheerful setting will beckon guests to dress in poodle skirts and leather jackets for lively, animated shots.
  • Nautical Seaside Escape
Utilize a less-traditional coastal setting to invoke the vintage seaside glamour of the early 1900s. Include maritime elements such as striped beach chairs, wooden anchors, and coiled ropes against the serene backdrop of the sea. The attire, which is comprised of breezy linen suits and wide-brimmed hats, will complement this timeless marine setting.
  • Old Hollywood Glamour
Recreate the sophistication of a golden age film set in an intimate studio space. Utilize velvet drapes, grand chandeliers, and gold-framed mirrors to reflect the splendor of Old Hollywood. Participants in luxurious gowns and sharp tuxedos can pose with vintage cameras and classic clapboards to encapsulate the cinema's illustrious heritage.
