Bonnie, the homeowner of this location, was nothing but incredibly helpful and flexible throughout our entire process – this includes the scouting, planning, prepping and shooting. It felt more like a collaboration with the homeowner than it did just renting a home for the shoot as she shared our enthusiasm and excitement for the process. At many points she went the extra mile to help us out and show her desire to assist us in making our vision a reality. The home itself is beautifully maintained to preserve a vintage look and feel, but done with such taste and not at all overly kitschy, which can often happen within this style of interior design. It is tastefully curated with very interesting visual pieces throughout. The many different rooms and bathrooms provided so many locations both for shooting as well as areas dedicated to departments like hair/makeup and wardrobe, talent holding, etc. Also, the variety in furniture allowed so many different ways of shooting, making the house seem even larger on screen. All in all, our experience in the home and with Bonnie was nothing short of spectacular and would absolutely recommend!

I rented this house for my 40th birthday party. The location is great and the views at night are fantastic. Everyone loved it and it turned out to be a great event. Due to LA ordinances the music couldn’t be too loud but overall we made it work. Great spot to rent for a daytime event.

They will also have an extensive library of music genres to pick from, giving guests plenty of choices for dancing or background melodies.

  • Catering

Pros and Cons of Rooftop Receptions in Los Angeles

Rooftop receptions in Los Angeles provide couples with an amazing opportunity to exchange their vows and celebrate the start of a new life together. However, these occasions come with several advantages and disadvantages that should be taken into consideration before making the decision to host a wedding in this environment:

Advantages

  • Unparalleled view of the city and its iconic landmarks: Couples who host their reception on a rooftop will have a stunning view of Los Angeles and its surrounding areas, from the Hollywood sign to the Santa Monica Pier.

  • Escape from noise pollution: Rooftops offer privacy from street traffic noise below, generating an intimate atmosphere for guests to enjoy.

  • Increased safety: Receptions taking place on such spots are often shielded from potential risks such as severe weather or vandalism, giving lovebirds peace of mind when it comes to their special day.

Disadvantages

  • Limited space: Hosting a wedding reception on a rooftop can be restrictive due to the limited square footage available. This can limit the size of the guest list or require creative solutions for dining arrangements.

  • Temperature control issues: Los Angeles can experience wide temperature swings throughout the day, which may make outdoor receptions uncomfortable depending on when they take place. Patrons may need additional insulation or air conditioning measures taken in order to stay comfortable throughout the occasion.

  • Risk of birds or other animals disrupting proceedings: While rare, there is always a chance that birds or other animals could interfere during a reception taking place outdoors atop a building. It might be wise for couples to consider appropriate protective measures ahead of time in order to avoid any potential disaster scenarios.

Tips on How to Organize Rooftop Receptions in Los Angeles

Arranging rooftop receptions in Los Angeles can be an exciting endeavor but also a complex task. With the right preparation and organization, however, you can make your vision a reality. So here are some tips:

  • Choose the right venue: When selecting a venue for your rooftop reception, consider factors such as size and accessibility, as well as the view it provides. Such places often have spectacular views of the town skyline, making them an ideal choice for special occasions.

  • Secure proper permits: Check with the local authorities to ensure that you obtain all necessary permits for holding a public event atop a building. Additionally, confirm that appropriate noise ordinances are observed if you are planning to have live music or other entertainment at your event.

  • Have an indoor backup plan: If you're expecting inclement weather or strong winds at your outdoor reception, it's always wise to have a fallback. Investigate indoor venues nearby as potential options for relocating should Mother Nature decide not to cooperate with your plans.

Famous Locations in Los Angeles

  • Murphy Ranch
Strolling a few miles away from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, you can discover an idyllic oasis of history nestled amongst the lush foliage in Rustic Canyon. It's the site of Murphy Ranch, a ruin built during World War II by an unknown visionary set on creating a self-sustaining compound. Local journalists speak to the wonder and mythology surrounding this mysterious place. Originally purchased in 1933 by Jessie Murphy — who is nowhere to be found in any other documentation — the property was developed into its mysterious form by Winona and Norman Stephens. Though time has taken its toll on parts of the ranch, with some areas now demolished, numerous structures, such as an iconic concrete house, still remain today.

  • Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn
Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, the Carolwood Barn was originally built in 1950 behind Walt Disney's home and is rightfully seen as the cornerstone of his iconic Imagineering principles. Though it looks like your typical farmhouse on the outside, this structure was actually a station house for a mini-railroad installed by Disney himself on his property. No doubt those inside had an abundance of interesting conversations, with the potential to create projects, unlike anything the world had ever seen.

  • Exposition Park
This is an area rich with history. It is the location set to host the 2028 Olympic Games athletic events as well as the main closing ceremony. Nature lovers are sure to find their oasis here among the many green spaces, but none so sweet-smelling as the Rose Garden. Lovers and friends can linger in one of its gazebos or take a slow stroll around its central fountain, all while admiring beautiful brick facades. In addition to its outdoor beauty, paying a visit to this corner of town means access to world-class museums such as California African American Museum, California Science Center, and Natural History Museum.
