Great host who responds quickly and provides backdrops and lighting. Nice space and furniture/extras. The only reason i’m giving it 5 stars is because there’s no natural light source so the ceiling spot lights cast shadows on your subjects. Make sure to turn off those lights and bring extra lighting if booking this space.

Considerations for a Toronto Photo Shoot

Are you planning to organize a full day of creativity? You may need a photography permit, whether for an early morning shoot at the downtown core or a session in the middle of Lawrence Market. Before you finalize an art gallery near the CN Tower or plan an outdoor session in Downtown Toronto, consider the pros and cons.

Advantages

  • Toronto is well-connected with a great public transport system, making it easy to move around the city for multiple photo opportunities. Planning to work at different venues in the city is easily managed.

  • Places like the Toronto Islands are great for photo shoots. Photographers can get fabulous backdrops of the Toronto skyline.

  • Toronto has stylish and luxurious locations that are extremely affordable for photo and film shoots. Places with views of Union Station, Ireland Park, and Trinity College are accessible and budget-friendly.

Disadvantages

  • The weather is quite unpredictable, making an indoor photography option for backup a necessity.

  • Locations in Toronto with a view of the downtown skyline get booked very quickly. Reserve the locations early to get to the venue of your choice.

  • Toronto has quite a bit of traffic during rush hours, which could lead to traffic congestion and cause delays in getting from one place to another.

Book the Best Photo Shoot Locations in Toronto

There are a few reasons to take your time before finalizing the best locations in Toronto. Primary to success is the theme of the shoot. Decide whether you need natural light for street photography or a historic building for your family or wedding photos. After the theme comes the purpose of the shoot.

Modern Photo Studios – Seamless Backdrops. Are you looking for a fabulous photo studio in the heart of Toronto? Giggster has several excellent photography studios with modern interiors, natural light, floor-to-ceiling windows for backdrops of the Toronto skyline and CN Tower, and more. Such a photo studio is excellent for the cover photo of a magazine or the center spread for a newspaper.

Creative Spaces and Sets – Ready For Photography. Toronto has plenty of Hollywood films and TV series shot in historic buildings and scenic waterfront parks. You can find multiple readymade spaces and sets near Queen Street and Huge Park.

Homes – Indoor Photography Locations. Giggster has plenty of house and home locations that are ideal for indoor photography. Industrial buildings, warehouses, and lofts are also good for such shoots.

Nature Spaces – Distinct Photos. Giggster offers access to outdoor shooting spaces near Algonquin Provincial Park, Trinity College, Queen's Quay, Cherry Street, and Cherry Beach. Outdoor locations and nature spaces in Toronto are perfect for wedding photos and engagement pictures. The iconic CN Tower can also be used as a backdrop.

Restaurants/Diners – Individual Shoots. You can book a beautiful restaurant with cultural significance near famous spots like the Gooderham building or the Royal Conservatory. There are plenty of hidden gems in the Distillery District, and Casa Loma could be the perfect backdrop, too.

Planning Top-notch Photo Shoots in Toronto

Planning a photo shoot requires consideration and time. Start by thinking about the concept of your shoot, the audience, and the theme. Once you have these things ready, you can work on additional details.

Research Locations in Toronto – Giggster has 242 popular photography locations in Toronto. These get fully booked quickly, so it's best to reserve them early according to your theme or requirement. Booking the locations weeks or months in advance gives you enough time to prepare for everything else.

Get the Permits – Open-air and outdoor spaces need a photography permit. You cannot simply walk up to a space and start clicking pictures for commercial or professional use. Getting the necessary permits early ensures a seamless photography shoot.

Budget Wisely – It's easy to go overboard with camera equipment, screens, and lights. Budget properly for the shoot so you can prepare everything according to plan. The budget should include transportation costs, costume rentals, equipment rentals, and venue rentals.

Have a Shot List Ready – Having a shot list of angles, costumes, styles, and places ready in advance will help you take the best images. This will help keep the photos and filming on track without losing the theme or requirements.

How to Save Money on Your Photo Shoot in Toronto

While Toronto is not as expensive as other cities like New York or Los Angeles, it's still easy to spend. We have tips so you can stay on track with your expenses.

Use natural light.

The best advice for photographers looking to save money on lighting rentals and equipment is to use natural light as much as possible. Outdoor and indoor photo shoots can be successfully completed in natural light without requiring extra money.

Can you hire emerging talent?

If you need models, makeup artists, and technicians and need to save on costs, hire emerging talent. Local skilled talent in Toronto is not as expensive as professionals. Emerging artists and technicians may be willing to work for a lower hourly pay to gain valuable hands-on experience.

Choose your locations wisely.

Toronto has plenty of hidden gems, like iconic city landmarks Sugar Beach, High Park, and Casa Loma. For a colorful fashion photo shoot, you can also use a graffiti alley filled with local artwork.
