An oasis of Japanese design, elegance and tranquility in midtown Manhattan, our building offers fully equipped facilities ideal for conferences, receptions, film shoots, workshops, and other special events. Our unique rental spaces feature a 260-seat auditorium, a spacious reception room and foyer with views of a sculpture garden and waterfall, and an intimate meeting room and atrium situated on the second floor.

There is a cost of $90 per hour to open the building beyond normal business hours (8:30 am - 5:30 pm, M-F) in addition to rental fees. Hiring our in-house AV technician(s) is required for use of the Auditorium, at a rate of $50 per hour per tech.
Unfortunately we cannot rent to private individuals, only to organizations (corporate, non-profit, government, etc.).
The elegant Main Foyer, with a pool and waterfall as its centerpiece, is ideal for welcoming guests and holding receptions. It can be rented separately, or in conjunction with the Reception Room or Auditorium.

Our Auditorium is equipped with state-of-the art film projectors, as well as stage lighting and sound systems.
The theater, which seats 260 (distanced capacity: 20 in audience, 12 on stage), is an ideal location for a variety of events, from the corporate to the artistic. Some examples include:

The Reception Room is a versatile venue appropriate for both corporate events and more social occasions. The room’s floor-to-ceiling sliding glass windows open onto Japan Society’s serene waterfall, pond and sculpture garden; the room can also be used in conjunction with the adjacent Main Foyer to enlarge and enhance the space, accommodating up to 250 guests for reception events and 100 people for seated events, such as a dinner or lecture (15 for distanced capacity).
The room is equipped with audiovisual systems and projection screens if needed, and an adjoining kitchen is available for use by caterers and service staff.
