The venue was founded in 1888 as a private women's club. In 1905 a Club House, with rooms designed by member Julia Morgan, was built on Franklin Street in San Francisco. The Club House survived the 1906 earthquake and fire and was used temporarily to house the California State Supreme Court.
The venue facilities are available to rent for weddings, private dinners, recitals, weekly meetings, and business or social events, with or without the use of kitchen facilities.
