About the Space

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Santa Monica has been on the corner of Ocean Park Boulevard and 14th Street since 1947. Currently a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Mt. Olive has become a fixture of the community and is always looking for new ways to serve Santa Monica. As such, and inspired by former pastor Rev. Eric C. Schafer’s work in media and broadcasting at ELCA headquarters in Chicago, Mt. Olive is pleased to make itself available as a rental location for film, television, and media productions including the following amenities: - Approx. 4,500 Square Feet - Mid-Century Modern Architecture - Stained Glass Windows along 14th Street - 85 Parking Spaces - 3 Handicap Accessible Parking Spaces - 2 ADA Compliant Restrooms on Ground Floor - Flexible Seating At this time, only the Sanctuary is available as a shooting location. The Parish Hall may be made available for equipment and cast holding on a case-by-case basis, though this is not a guarantee and is not the case for all inquiring productions. Please ask about the Parish Hall in your request if you think you will need the space (additional charge may be incurred). Additionally, the Sanctuary piano is not included as part of the location rental. If you would like, church staff will prepare the piano, covered or uncovered, to a pre-determined place. If you would like the piano to be moved throughout the day, the Set Liaison will be able to move the piano on behalf of the production. At this time, Mt. Olive is not able to make their candles available to be lit for the scene. Mt. Olive asks that you do not bring your own candles to circumvent this restriction. The Choir Loft is off-limits, including for the purposes of accessing the pipe organ and sound system. Please ask about requesting use of the sound system to be performed by church staff and/or the organ to be played by the church organist in your request (additional charge(s) may be incurred, additional stipulations may be given). Mt. Olive reserves the right to deny location rental to any production on an editorial basis. Please provide a logline of your project and the script pages of scene(s) to be shot in the Sanctuary so that the Entertainment Ministry may review the content. Mt. Olive also reserves the right to not explain why a rental request has been denied on editorial grounds. Mt. Olive is a Reconciling in Christ congregation, and is a member of the ELCA. Mt. Olive does not discriminate on the basis of national origin, race, color, religion, creed, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or familial status. Editorial objections primarily involve: direct profanity, violence/gore, explicit sexual content. Conflicts: As Mt. Olive is an active church and additional conflicts, such as weddings, funerals, concerts, and/or special events, will be brought to the production’s attention as needed. Mt. Olive reserves the right to schedule additional events with no prior notice. Location Rental: $200 per hour, minimum 1 hour Set Liaison: $150 per day for 3 hours or less, $250 per day for 4 or more hours Insurance: At this time, Mt. Olive is only allowing insured productions to film on the property. As such, please attach proof of insurance when inquiring about your rental. Cleaning/Repair Fees: Basic use of the Mt. Olive facilities incurs a cleaning fee of $60. Should the production cause any stains and/or damages to the property, the production will be billed 100% of the cost.
