About Denver

The capital of Colorado, the city of Denver, is often called the mile-high city. This is because it sits about a mile above sea level. The elevation at the State Capitol is 5,280 feet. Denver spans 155 square miles and had a population of over 600,000 people as of 2010. Cherry Creek acted as one of the first sites of the gold rush in 1858.

Later that same year, the area was renamed Denver City to honor the governor of the Kansas Territory, James W. Denver. The area only grew as the gold rush boomed, and in 1860 Denver City and the nearby Auraria consolidated to become one.

The new city was named Denver. In 1870, the city established its own railroad to connect to Union Pacific. Shortly after, the Kansas Pacific Railroad reached Denver and the city experienced an economic boom. From 1870 to 1890, the population rose from 4,759 to 106,713.

Pros and Cons of Film Studio Spaces in Denver

All cities have their advantages and disadvantages, including Denver. This bustling metropolis comes with its pros and cons just like any other city. Before you finalize your film studio space in Denver, make sure you know all the facts.

Advantages

  • Scenic views
One of the biggest pros about Denver is the natural beauty that is all around. It sits at the base of the Rocky Mountains and offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, camping, kayaking, and other outdoor recreational activities.

  • Sunshine
Considering Denver is at such a high elevation, it’s not a surprise that it receives more sunny days than many other major cities in the country. The city sees about 245 sunny days a year, while the national average is 205 days. This also means summer heat can be worse here than in other cities.

  • Beer and food
Denver might be well known for nature and outdoor fun, but it also has a vibrant food and beer scene. There are a number of quality restaurants in the city, and over 150 breweries. Beer tours and tastings are quickly becoming a popular pastime in Denver.

Disadvantages

  • High altitude
Since Denver sits about a mile above sea level, visitors have to adjust to the high altitude. This adjustment often comes with headaches, dry skin, and nausea. However, it does fade after you’ve spent a bit of time in the city.

  • Public transportation
Denver does have a public transportation system but it’s lacking. You’ll have to rely on driving yourself around unless you want to hire a private company. The transportation the city does offer comes with a limited range that doesn’t extend that far.

  • Traffic
The resident population in Denver, mixed with the millions of tourists who pass through each year, contributes to major traffic. You can expect to run into delays and long commute times, no matter where you’re going in the city. Denver recently was rated the 21st worst city for traffic in the country.
