The Venue is a historic building in the South Loop of Chicago. It features original brick walls and our recent renovation was designed by Gensler Design.
Overflow features high ceilings with exposed beams and brick. The design is inspired by the rich history of our building which was once owned by VeeJay Records, at one point the largest Black-owned record label in the world. The space is perfect for music nights, art shows, networking events, and book signings. The event space can fit up to 80 people.
Mox.E Coworking, on the 2nd floor, features an event space for up to 70 people, depending on the configuration of the event. There are more business-related amenities in this space, so if your event needs TV projection screens, video conferencing technology, or meeting space options, this area would work well for you. Mox.E is perfect for workshops, conferences, networking, fundraising functions, and board meetings.
Our feature conference room overlooks Michigan Avenue and has floor-to-ceiling glass walls (front and street level) with 15 foot ceilings. The table is custom-made and hand carved by Chicago Fire Furniture, and Black-owned custom wood shop. Their custom woodwork is also featured in our coffee shop.
In addition, the building has 2 kitchens, an elevator, small private offices and meeting rooms, and a Mother's Room.
The Dark Room comfortably fits 60 people seated. All apparatuses are removable/can be stowed away. Wifi equipped, bluetooth-enabled sound system, LED, smart-activated lights. 25 metal folding chairs & one rectangular folding table, available for use. Perfect for yoga, dance, pilates, fitness classes/workshops & birthday parties! Street parking available.

Bright, modern space with 15' ceilings and a full kitchen. Bright, spacious, and open. There are two bedrooms and a bath on the mezzanine level if you'd like to book it for an overnight stay in addition to your event. It's great for smaller (60 people or less) events and special occasions.
Parking is usually available on Ashland in front of the building, if not you can park on the curb cut between the street and sidewalk; it's next to the garage. See the last picture for a map.
There are 10 chairs in addition to the couch and accent chairs. We have an extra folding table and extra chairs if needed, and many people bring more. The pool table can easily be converted to a table as well.
Optional add-ons include the promotion of your event using our exterior digital sign ($75.00/day), or even an overnight stay in our newly remodeled sleeping accommodations on the mezzanine level. Overnight stay if you've booked an event: $275/night. If you'd like this option you'll need to book the space until midnight and let us know you'd like to spend the night. Check-out is 10 am the next day.
Loud music and smoking tobacco are strictly prohibited at this property. Other than that, as long as you leave the place as you found it, you can use the space as you wish.
