The host was very, very helpful. We were able to get everything we needed filmed in a short period of time, even on the weekend. I am glad we could make it work. Thanks!

Nina is the best host! Very helpful and accommodating. We had an incredible shoot thanks to her and the restaurant set location. This restaurant is huge and a lot of cool areas to shoot/capture. You have access to massive gated parking area. It’s also across the street and close to grocery stores/lowes/restaurants. So can’t think of a better location for production. We were able to capture some beautiful shots here. We were also able to rent the house set attached in the same lot, this worked wonders for a large cast/crew size for wardrobe/makeup/background. Don’t hesitate booking this place!

This location was perfect to shoot a music video for! The house was very vintage and cute, it is full of uniqueness. The host Crizanne and her husband was very understanding and helpful to all of the production's need as well, we had the smoothest music video shoot here and I cannot thank them enough for making it possible. Great location, host, and vibe! 100/10 recommend, thank you so much!

Advantages and Disadvantages of Retro Locations in LA

Still can't decide whether you should have a retro party on your next trip to Los Angeles? Maybe you need to highlight the history of the City of Angels but are still on the fence if it's worth the journey with all the traffic waiting for you. Read on to help you make an informed choice before you travel to your chosen retro location in LA.

Advantages

  • Los Angeles is a treasure trove of entertainment, retro locations, and attractions you won't find anywhere else. Apart from the famous Getty Museum, Griffith Observatory, and the storied Sunset Strip are hidden gems like Yamashiro a.k.a the Mountain Palace.
  • You can drive from LA to other must-visit cities like San Fernando, Long Beach, and even Las Vegas, which gives you more access to retro locations in Los Angeles County and beyond.
  • If you want to bring your retro event outdoors, you can do it nearly any time of the year in LA due to its fantastic weather year-round.

Disadvantages

  • You must always consider LA's traffic if you have to travel from one place to another, especially during rush hours.
  • Los Angeles is huge, so it's not exactly walkable. You have to rely on private vehicles or public transportation to reach your desired retro location.
  • The city has many sunny days in a year, and when it finally does rain, it can cause issues, especially for drivers who aren't used to driving in the rain.

The Best Type of Retro Venues in Los Angeles

The retro spaces you'll find in LA aren't limited to Art Deco hotels or those decades-old structures on Alameda St. Check out Giggster's 4 listings to discover more places you probably haven't considered before.

Houses – Timeless Elegance. You don't have to rack your brain to figure out where to host your gathering and accommodate guests or film crew. No matter your event or media project, LA's retro houses, from ranch-style and Tudor to mid-century modern homes, will bring your vision to life.

Ballrooms – Elegant and Chic. Roll out the red carpet, serve the cocktails, and feel like royalty in a ballroom venue. With high ceilings, a grand staircase, and a large dance floor, ballrooms will let you and your guests live like kings and queens for a day.

Bars and Restaurants – Nostalgic Dining. Achieve that classic Old Hollywood look in LA's retro bars and restaurants. With classic drinks and a retro-inspired menu, as well as nostalgic accents like neon signs at the front, jukeboxes, and pinball machines, you might forget you live in the 21st century. These venues are easy to spot as they're spread throughout the city, especially in the hippest areas like the Sunset Strip, Hollywood, and Downtown.

Hunting Lodges – Remote and Secluded. If you need a remote filming location or a venue away from the crowd and all the bright city lights, LA’s hunting lodges can be your best bet. You can also opt for log cabins, country inns, ranches, or barn venues that give off a rustic, outdoorsy charm. You’ll feel close to nature in these retro-style places, and they’ll allow you to recharge and relax during your stay.

Vintage Shops and Antique Stores – Old-World Charm. Just like how vintage fashion and vinyl records are making a comeback, vintage shops and antique stores are now beloved spots for music video and film productions, photo shoots, intimate celebrations, and small corporate affairs. Not only do they allow you to shop for antiques, cool dresses, and unique accessories, but they also make great settings for events and film/photo shoots.

How to Plan a Retro Event in Los Angeles

Although it's related to the past or a bygone era, retro style looks refreshing, and when incorporated into an event, it stands out. But before you book any retro venue in Los Angeles, be sure you know what you're doing so you don't waste your effort and hard work. Take a look at our guide and keep these ideas in mind when you decide to host your own retro event.

Set the Budget – It's easier to choose the perfect venue, create a guest list, craft a menu, and identify the vendors you'll need if you know how much you can afford. With Giggster's affordable Los Angeles retro locations, you won't have to worry about the place to host your event, even on a tight budget.

Pick Your Era – You want to capture the color and vibe of the past while still making sure it's relevant and fun for your audience or guests. So, decide which era you want to focus on, whether it's the 50s, 90s, or anything in between.

Choose a Location – Do you have a specific LA neighborhood in mind? Do you prefer an indoor space over an outdoor setting? Fortunately, you can narrow your venue search on Giggster, so you can find a retro space that's accessible and convenient for you and your guests.

Decorate Your Chosen Space – Even if it's an empty office space, a small room, or a backyard, you can create the look and style you want with a bit of creativity. Instead of the bright modern lighting, opt for lamps or candles and use vintage pieces like old furniture, rugs, gadgets of the 90s, cassette and VHS tapes, etc.

How to Save Money on Retro Locations in Los Angeles

Los Angeles isn't a cheap destination, but we've found a few ways to help you enjoy a low-cost retro-themed celebration. Here's how you can save money on your retro venue:

Be clear on what’s included.

Some places are like a blank canvas with nothing included while others come fully furnished. You must understand exactly what’s included in the venue to help you budget and make an informed decision.

Use homemade or repurposed items.

The best thing about a retro look is that many elements you can use as decor are found in your house or storage. Use old furniture or repurpose items like suitcases, musical instruments, and crates into stylish decor pieces.

Thrift stores and flea markets are your best friends.

If you can't find retro items in your home, what better place to get cheap vintage furniture, glassware, vases, and lamps than thrift stores and flea markets? Some products might need a little TLC, but you can transform them into something amazing.
