This was a remarkably easy experience. The host was very responsive and very supportive. I honestly can't say enough about how helpful and positive she was. The space itself worked beautifully for our purposes and, again, the host was so understanding of our need to cover her windows for a night shot and to move a few pieces of furniture into another room. Although we weren't a huge crew we were using 5 lights for a few shots and the electricity in the apartment supported our needs (as long as we were careful to use extension cords to spread the circuit demands). We used the sofa area of the living room extensively, plus the refrigerator end of the kitchen (we were able to get coverage from both angles) and the bedroom. The bed, especially, looks gorgeous on screen! Truly I feel very lucky that the host allowed us to use this location and I highly recommend it for future shoots!

This was our 3rd time booking with Lex and hope to again in the future. His space is perfect for our documentary interview shoot and he is so accommodating. A pleasure to work with!

Jacob was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The space was clean and perfect for our photo shoot. The only con would be that I didn’t know upfront that a paper background was an additional charge ($25). Not super expensive, but just a heads up beforehand would be nice.

Location was great for our needs! Lots of daylight but easy to black out. Load-in couldn't be easier, curbside access. Jacob is super friendly and helpful. Really good price too! Would use them again in a second!

Things to Consider for Your Tea Party in New York City

Are you thinking of having a tea party but aren't sure if New York City is the right place to have it? Here are some pros and cons to consider to help you decide.

Pros

  • From luxurious hotel lounges like those in the Mandarin Oriental and Whitby Hotel to vintage-style tea rooms, New York City has countless spots for any type of tea party.

  • One of the many things that makes NYC an incredible place is that each neighborhood has its own distinct vibe. Do you want to hire a place that is posh and polished? Try the Upper East Side. Do you prefer boho and artsy? Brooklyn is the place for you.

  • With excellent transportation (especially from Long Island City) and numerous catering options, organizing your tea party is surprisingly convenient.

Cons

  • It's no secret that New York City is one of the most expensive cities in the world, so you can expect high prices for venues, catering, and decorations.

  • Since it's such a populated city, venues can be booked out months in advance. So, if you have your eye on a venue, make sure to book it as early as possible.

  • Unless you and your guests take public transport, finding parking (especially in Manhattan) can be a challenge and add stress to your day.

The Best Places for a Tea Party in New York City

While iconic places like The Palm Court in The Plaza Hotel and the Parisian Tea Room offer charming spaces for private parties, Giggster's 2553 listings are unique and sure to spark conversation!

Rooftop Terraces – Panoramic Views. What's a tea party in New York City without breathtaking views? Giggster has countless venues scattered around the city, from Brooklyn to the Upper East Side, boasting panoramic views of the city. Eat delicious treats and enjoy tasty tea with friends while soaking up the gorgeous views.

Elegant Lounges – French-Inspired. For a quintessential tea party with French-inspired decor, hiring an elegant lounge is a must. Gather your friends for an afternoon indulging in delicious treats and delightful conversation surrounded by some of the most beautiful interiors in the city.

Charming Brownstones – Private & Chic. If you're looking for an amazing venue that's private and also has an outdoor terrace to enjoy high tea and fun with friends, brownstones provide the perfect backdrop.

Quaint Cafes – Charming & Intimate. Are you planning an intimate tea party and don't want to hire out a big venue? Complete with savory selections and tea ready to be served, cafes are ideal venues for intimate gatherings.

How to Plan an Afternoon Tea Party in New York, New York

Planning tea parties in New York is very exciting, but not without its challenges. Here are some things you can do to make the planning process easier, ensuring an unforgettable event.

Choose Your Tea Party Style – The first thing you'll want to do is decide the overall theme of your tea party. Do you want a classic English afternoon tea or a whimsical garden gathering? The style you choose will influence every other detail, from the venue to the decor.

Set a Budget – Before doing anything else, it's important to set a clear budget. Since New York City can get expensive very fast, knowing your limits will help you make smart choices without blowing your budget.

Pick a Venue – From luxurious hotels to stunning rooftop terraces, New York City boasts a wide range of venues, so choose one that fits your theme and budget. However, venues in NYC can book out fast, so book as far in advance as possible.

Plan the Menu – You can't have a tea party without tea (and food). Serve a variety of tea as well as sandwiches, scones, jam, pastries, and desserts. Depending on your style (and budget), you can prepare everything yourself or hire a caterer.

Send Out Invitations – Once you have all of the basics covered, it's time to send out invitations. Whether traditional invitations or digital ones, make sure to include the date, time, location, dress code, and how to RSVP.

Saving Money on a Tea Party in New York City

Hosting a tea party doesn't have to break the bank. Here are some creative ways to save money on your next tea party without compromising quality.

Organize the food yourself.

Hiring a caterer or buying treats from fancy tea rooms around town can be expensive. Instead, make your own party spread! Finger food, scones, pastries, and desserts are simple and affordable to prepare in bulk.

Limit the guest list.

Keep it traditional and keep your guest list to a minimum. Smaller tea parties not only feel more intimate, but they also immediately lower the costs of venue hire and food.

Focus on one statement piece.

Instead of going all-out with every decoration, choose one or two elements to focus on, such as a beautiful cake or a unique tea selection.
