I had a family photoshoot here in our traditional Cambodian wedding outfits and we really had a great experience! The place is super bright even when the sun was coming and going. It was also very spatious as we had room for six of us to change outfits about 4-5 times, for a total of 14 people. There's a makeup station so we were able to do our makeup and hair from 9am to 12h30 ish. A few people were complaining that there was no AC as it got very hot in the afternoon, but at least windows can be opened. The host was very responsible and very sweet! Very glad I booked this studio!

Know the Pros and Cons of Film Shoots in Montreal

There are lots of good reasons why more than a few Hollywood movies have been filmed at Montreal locations, but there are also some reasons why you might want to consider other options for your shoot. Check out the pros and cons before you decide.

Advantages

  • Montreal is often used to replicate New York City's Greenwich Village and New York's JFK Airport, which gives you an idea of just how versatile its filming locations are.

  • From Montreal City Hall to the Old Montreal Customs House, the historic Royal Bank building, Rue du Saint Sacrement, Quai King Edward, and many gorgeous parks, locations in Montreal boast a combination of natural and man-made beauty.

  • The city's strong film industry and the fact that many Hollywood films have been shot there makes it a natural choice for your project—there are tax incentives that make the city a draw as well.

Disadvantages

  • The fact that there have been so many movies filmed in Montreal means you may find filming locations that are easily recognizable from other productions.

  • Montreal is an expensive city, so booking filming locations here might cost more than you expect.

  • There's a huge demand for the best filming locations in Montreal, so you'll need to book early or otherwise avoid missing out. Not only that, but when booking a location, you have to be aware of timing and permits.

The Best Type of Venue for Your Film Shoot in Montreal

Here are just some of the settings you might like to check out for your project. A stunning location like The dark studio is perfect to add some historic charm to your scenes.

  • Historic Homes – Old-World Charm. In a city with a history as rich as Montreal's it's no surprise to find a host of historic private residences to book for your next project.

  • Studios – Professional Perfection. Give your images and audio the professional polish they deserve by filming in a professional studio setting boasting the latest technology.

How to Plan a Film Shoot in Montreal

From the opening chase scene to the end credits, a whole lot of hard work and planning goes on behind the scenes to ensure a successful movie or TV series.

Make a Plan – Start by making a detailed plan for your day(s) of shooting. What scenes are you capturing and what emotions will they inspire in your viewers? In what order will they be filmed, and which cast and crew members need to be in attendance?

Set the Date and Budget – Next, set the date for your shoot and work with the producers to calculate exactly how much money you have to spend on your production.

Book a Filming Location – Compare filming locations in Montreal to find your ideal setting. Whatever you want in a space—views of Mount Royal Park, floor-to-ceiling windows, a Rue Sainte Hélène South location, a spot close to the Olympic Stadium, Lawrence River views, historic buildings, or anything else—shop around to find an incredible place in this beautiful city.

Hire Cast and Crew – Now it's time to hire all the key people you need for filming. That includes everyone from actors to make-up artists, camera people, boom operators, lighting specialists, and many more.

Rent Equipment – Do you need extra furniture or props for your filming space, or maybe some extra audio, lighting, or camera gear to host the shoot you want? Make any necessary rental arrangements now to guarantee a smooth shoot.

Organize the Finer Details – If you need to arrange a filming permit, book catering for the day of the shoot, hire portable bathrooms, hire trailers for stars, or do anything else to ensure that your shoot is a success, do so now.

Saving Money on a Film Shoot in Montreal

Regardless of whether you're filming a big-budget production with Brad Pitt, Amy Adams, and Hugh Jackman or something much more low-key, these simple tips will help you cut costs on your shoot.

Tackle two birds with one stone.

Rather than hiring multiple locations, look for a single location where you can capture multiple scenes in one place. This can greatly reduce your venue hire costs and also cut down on expenses such as transport.

Make a detailed plan for the production day.

You need to have a detailed plan of which scenes will be shot on the day and in what order. Having a clear schedule will ensure that you are as efficient as possible and work through each scene methodically, saving time as well as money.

Compare everything from where to get crew to what to eat.

No matter whether you're choosing Montreal locations, booking catering, hiring crew members, booking security personnel, or anything else, take the time to compare quotes. Shopping around is a simple but effective way to cut costs.
