About Gardena
Gardena is known as the “City of Opportunity” because of the many advantages it offers businesses and residents. Those same advantages are available for your production space project. One of those opportunities is the proximity to Los Angeles, it’s in the South Bay region of the county.
The Tongva first nation were the original residents of Gardena; the area was used for hunting and fishing. Today, there are about 60,000 residents, including a large Japanese American population. The U.S. headquarters of several Japanese companies are also based in Gardena and provide jobs and other opportunities. The cultural opportunities, business, and residential areas of Gardena all blend to create an inviting city.

Advantages
- Cost
The cost of living and doing business in Gardena is less than some of her other neighbors in Los Angeles and that’s a huge advantage to any project working on a budget.
- Weather
Southern California and Los Angeles County are known for their good weather, and you’ll experience that while you’re in Gardena. The city enjoys moderate temperatures year-round, although it does get hotter in the summer.
- Access
Being in Los Angeles County has numerous benefits, including access to the city itself and major transportation infrastructure. Everything you could possibly need is within reach here.
Disadvantages
- Traffic
Unfortunately, Gardena has the nickname “Freeway City,” and with a nickname like this, you know the traffic situation also matches it. The larger population in Southern California and the notoriously busy roads of the county add to this.
- Air quality
Then, there’s the air quality. The exhaust from all those cars contributes to the city’s smog problem and the air quality in Gardena is regularly a challenge.
- Safety
Crime rates in Gardena have consistently been a bit higher than they should be, causing stress and straining local resources. The city has a bit of a bad reputation, and precautions should be taken to maintain safety.
Famous Locations in Gardena

Mas Fukai Park is managed by the City of Gardena and is an understated city park. It offers picnic areas and an older-style children’s playground that includes sand. The park was named after Masani ‘Mas’ Fukai, who served as a city councilman for many years and helped the Japanese American community in countless ways.

Those looking for more of a nature preserve should head to Thornburg Park. It’s located on 149th Street and has the standard picnic areas and recreation fields, as well as some nature trails and more woods than the Mas Fukai Park has. - Sunday Strolls
If you’re in Gardena on the weekend, check out the Sunday Strolls, usually held the second Sunday and fourth Saturday of each month at Gardena Willows Wetland Preserve. Of course, you can also go take a stroll and enjoy the preserve on your own at any time. They recommend bug repellent, sturdy shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and a camera. The Overlook is one of our favorite destinations to stroll to.
