This space is an excellent spot to shoot. The CYC wall is huge with lots of Natural light coming in through garage door. Ryan was great to work with. Made the experience seamless and was very helpful. He keeps the entire studio clean which is a huge plus.

Great space, easy to access and great communication with host. Self check in and out which can sometimes be a nightmare but did not prove to be the case for this space at all. I recommend arriving a little earlier than your party to ensure that you can access space and give proper directions to it. Would definitely come back.

Costa Mesa is known as the City of the Arts, and what better place could you imagine exploring and expanding your art with a production space venue. It’s located just 37 miles from Los Angeles and offers a vibrant residential and commercial scene with a mix of open spaces and parks.

The city had humble beginnings as a small, farming community. It’s grown since then to a population of over 112,000. Much of the economic activity stems from the South Coast Plaza-John Wayne Airport edge city, which is partially in Costa Mesa. The South Coast Plaza is a large shopping center with over 270 stores and some incredible architecture.

The production space options in Costa Mesa are second to none, just ask Tom Hanks. He filmed part of his 1996 drama, That Thing You Do, in Costa Mesa (Hanks was an actor and director of the film). Pros and Cons of Production Spaces in Costa Mesa

There are pros and cons of production space in Costa Mesa that may sway your decision one way or the other. Browse the list, then make a decision and keep your project moving forward.

Advantages

  • Climate
The semi-arid climate of southern California yields a lot of benefits, and the warm, sunny weather and low amounts of precipitation beckon visitors to the area. There is some fog and low clouds in the morning because of the proximity to the coast.

  • Safety
Costa Mesa consistently ranks high on lists of safe cities and the best places to live. That means visitors can navigate the streets with ease and less concern than in some other locations.

  • Culture
A city like Costa Mesa offers opportunities to enjoy the culture and nightlife after a day in your production space. The restaurants, museums, and nightlife are frequented by the young professionals that call the city home, as well as business visitors.

Disadvantages

  • Flood zone
Costa Mesa is only three-quarters of a mile from the Pacific Ocean. Its geographic location means that flooding is a concern for residents and visitors. Pay attention to the weather and heed any warnings.

  • Expensive
The cost of living is higher in Costa Mesa than in other cities. Much of this is driven by the housing costs in the city, but you should expect to pay more for other services as well, and this could impact your budget if you’re not prepared.

  • Crowds
The secret is out. Costa Mesa is a great location for production space. There will be competition for the best production space venues in the city, so book early if you have a particular location in mind.

Famous Locations in Costa Mesa

  • Costa Mesa Art Walk
Going on the Costa Mesa Art Walk is a must-do in the City of the Arts. This self-guided walk has over 20 pieces of art located throughout the city, and visitors can go and view all of them for free, whether it is a sculpture or a playfully painted piano.

  • Noguchi Garden
The Noguchi Garden (aka California Scenario) is actually part of the Costa Mesa Art Walk. But, if you can only choose one of the art displays to visit, this is the one. It’s a nationally known sculpture garden and was designed to represent the state of California through each of the unique sculptures. The Spirit of the Lima Bean sculpture is perhaps the one most Instagram-worthy.

  • Fairview Park
There certainly is a fair view in Fairview Park. It’s 208-acres and includes open space, trails, a miniature railroad, and a field, especially for flying model airplanes. At the highest point in the park, you can see all the way to Saddle Back Mountain. Fairview Park is also adjacent to other greenways and trails, making it a great place to escape.
