Very accomodating location! As a first-time producer for a student thesis film, this was one of the coolest (and easiest) locations to deal with. We had access to an additional trailer for basecamp with a bathroom, refrigerator, and power. Definitely the go-to spot if you're looking for a unique filming location!

Marty's location is even more impressive than in the photos. Lots of great options for video production setups, lots of natural light, and plenty of space to work with. Marty is an excellent host who helped make our production really smooth and everyone feel welcome. Our production was some interviews and b-roll for a documentary series. I highly recommend.

Wonderful venue for our event. We booked Martin's home for my father's memorial having never been there to check it out. It was gorgeous. Beautiful property, absolutely perfect. We used the bottom floor and were able to open up both sides of the living room, one that led to an outside porch and the other was a bank of floor to ceiling glass doors. There was a great cross breeze that all of the guests enjoyed. The kitchen was perfect for our caterer as well. He was able to stage all of the food in the kitchen and use the big square table as the place to put all of the food. The upstairs deck was super nice but we didn't need it. Martin was so easy to communicate with. He went above and beyond for us and made a special event even more special with his attentiveness and kindness. Parking was super easy for all 45 of our guests. Great location, easy to find. Five stars, awesome.

Pros and Cons of Rooftop Events in San Diego

Many visitors love San Diego because of the moderate weather and fantastic things to see and do. But to book a rooftop space in America's Finest City, you must know its pros and cons to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Advantages

  • If the beautiful city skyline and sweeping views of the ocean are your ideal backdrop for private events or royal weddings, then this city is the perfect place for you.

  • Whether you're in the heart of the city's historic Gaslamp Quarter to the hilly seaside area of La Jolla, the scenic nature and the vibrDiego's Diego spirit will envelop you.

  • The outdoor experience in San Diego's open-air settings is one-of-a-kind. You can enjoy the warm sunshine and fresh air and see notable places like Coronado Bridge, Harbor Island, and Petco Park.

Disadvantages

  • Although city residents often enjoy the lovely San Diego weather, a rainy or windy day can ruin private events.

  • Some rooftops are quite smaller than conventional event spaces. This might leave you no choice but to trim your guest list so there's room for everyone to mingle and move around.

  • Those with mobility issues might struggle to reach the rooftop without an elevator, and the elevated setting is also unfriendly to people who fear heights.

Choosing the Right Type of Rooftop Venues in San Diego

You probably have a few rooftop options or need Giggster to inspire you for your special day. Whatever the case, Giggster's range of San Diego rooftop locations cater to all private events; most have capacity for many attendees or intimate groups and create a serene background for a night of romance or sipping cocktails surrounded by great company.

Homes – Personal and Cozy Celebrations. Want to host your colleagues or friends and family in a rooftop setting but don’t want to give up the casual, more familiar environment of a home? Many rental houses in San Diego have rooftop decks as entertainment spaces for get-togethers, reunions, birthday parties, receptions, dinners, and other private events.

Skypool Residences – Elevated Pool Parties. Take your pool party above the ground and beat the summer heat in San Diego with style. Houses, apartments, and hotels with a rooftop pool often feature glass walls and infinity edges that offer a clear, open view of the surrounding area.

Rooftop Lounges, Restaurants, and Bars – Iconic Event Hotspots. When you imagine San Diego restaurants, event lounges, and bars for your event, you can almost picture an energetic crowd savoring tasty food and drinks and listening to live music or a DJ hyping up the audience.

Sky Gardens – Private Oasis in the Sky. Sky gardens aren’t as common as other rooftop party spots in San Diego, but your event will be epic if you find the right one. With plants and flowers as your natural décor, you don't need to buy expensive decorations to make the space party-ready.

Observation Decks – Immersive Party Experience. You’ll typically find them on top of towers or buildings, so you’ll be at a significant height to marvel at the cityscape and natural landscapes around you while you sip your favorite cocktail. In addition, the venue type has indoor options if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

How to Plan a Rooftop Event in San Diego

It’s not a proper summer in San Diego if you haven't gone to the beach or attended an event on a rooftop. And if it’s your turn to throw a sky-high soiree, we have a few tips to help you plan an exclusive shindig that promises to bring the roof down!

Decide why you Prefer an Aerial Affair – Is it just a casual hangout, a networking event, a business meeting, or a full-blown rooftop party with a DJ and mini-bar? Determine the purpose of the activity and what you want your guests to get out of the venue.

Find the Perfect Location – You might want to stay in downtown San Diego or explore other areas with rooftop venues. Lucky for you, though, the ‘Birthplace of California’ has plenty of venues in different styles, and many are on Giggster, complete with comprehensive property photos.

Have Fun with the Menu – You don’t have to stick to the typical party food and drinks. Of course, you can’t go wrong with light bites and refreshing cocktails, but it's an opportunity to add local favorites like fish tacos, artisan cheeses, and farm-to-table cuisine.

Take the Weather into Account – San Diego’s sunny reputation can disappoint you, especially if you don't check the weather forecast. Nothing ruins a rooftop party like an unexpected gust of wind or a sudden downpour, so plan for potential weather changes.

How to Save Money on Rooftop Venues in San Diego

Many find rooftop spaces more expensive than conventional venues because of their stunning views, exclusivity, and one-of-a-kind atmosphere. But even with a limited budget, you can still go with an elevated setting without overspending. Read on to know how.

Prepare your own décor.

Be your decorator. If you haven’t done it before, start small and simple with DIY plant hangers, candles, repurposed jars, and painted furniture. Gather the fairy lights you have at home and drape them along the railings.

Create a music playlist.

A DJ or a live band is a fantastic addition to elevate the mood at the venue, but if you have good taste in music, create your playlist instead. Set up a table to place your laptop and speakers and click on your playlist.

Limit your guest list.

More people mean more food and drinks, and you’ll need a bigger space to accommodate everyone. Limiting your guests will not only help you manage your event costs more effectively but also create a more intimate atmosphere for everyone.
