This Brewery building complex is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was constructed beginning in the late 1800's and was home to three different breweries opened by 19th-century German immigrants. The red brick building complex is currently home to a modern-day brewery (including brewing, kegging, and bottling operations), a full-service restaurant, banquet facilities, a multi-story office building, an authentic cobblestone biergarten, and rare, original 19th century lagering caves. The restaurant and brewhouse are built in the classic Bavarian bierhalle & ratskeller style. The office building located on the upper floors is rented to a variety of different business tenants, and individual offices vary in terms of size, layout (solo offices vs. cubicles), and decorating style. Some are contemporary; others have original Victorian styling; many have brick walls. Other important features of the building include a two-deck garage, a skyline view of downtown Pittsburgh, a loading dock, and authentic stone lagering caves that date back to the 19th century. Penn has hosted numerous film and photo shoots. One well-known example is the 2010 film The Next Three Days, starring Russell Crowe. The building complex is located on Pittsburgh's North Shore, across the Allegheny River from downtown, giving it an urban feel without the parking and traffic constraints.
