About Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree, California is an unincorporated area in San Bernardino County. Joshua Tree and the communities that surround it are in the California High Desert. This desert is also known as the Mojave Desert. It sits about 2,700 feet above sea level, and as of 2010 had a population of over 7,000.

This unincorporated area is mostly known for Joshua Tree National Park, which is only five miles away from the center of downtown. Since the community is not a city or town, it is represented by the Joshua Tree Municipal Advisory Council. They act as liaisons between Joshua Tree and the government of San Bernardino County.

Even though the community is famous for nearby Joshua Tree National Park, there are plenty of things to enjoy while indoors. Yucca Valley, Twentynine Palms, and Palm Springs are all just a short drive away. Joshua Tree National Park is the closest national park to both Los Angeles and San Diego.

Photo Shoot Venue Options in Joshua Tree

The scenic beauty in Joshua Tree makes it a perfect backdrop for any photo shoot. There are options in the small community, but you can also benefit from options available in Palm Springs and Los Angeles.

  • Cameras

  • Catering
If you plan for your Joshua Tree photo shoot to last over an hour or two, it might be a good idea to consider adding catering. This can be as simple as finger foods or a buffet-style layout, but it goes a long way in showing appreciation for your team.

  • Transportation
Getting around Joshua Tree isn’t difficult, but a private transportation company can get you around the rest of San Bernardino County in style. Even if you don’t need a car specifically for your photo shoot, they can provide private car tours of nearby areas.

Pros and Cons of Photo Shoots in Joshua Tree

There are good sides to using a Joshua Tree photo shoot venue, but there are bad sides too. It’s always a good idea to know the pros and cons of any city you will be visiting.

Advantages

  • The trees
One of the biggest draws of Joshua Tree is just how close it is to Joshua Tree National Park. You can’t even visit this unincorporated community without noticing the famous Joshua Trees everywhere, which is what the park and community were named for.

  • Hidden gems
Joshua Tree has become a popular getaway for those in Los Angeles and San Diego seeking to escape the big city lifestyle. However, the small community is also full of hidden gems that only locals know about.

  • Desert
If you want to enjoy the desert life then Joshua Tree is one of the best communities to visit. It’s quiet and peaceful, with plenty of ways to enjoy the desert.

Disadvantages

  • Small population
The community of Joshua Tree is small, with right under 7,000 people calling the area home. The small population size is seen as a drawback of Joshua Tree.

  • Nightlife
While there is plenty to be enjoyed in the great outdoors of Joshua Tree, there isn’t much of a nightlife. Compared to places like Los Angeles or San Diego, the nightlife in Joshua Tree is seriously lacking.

  • Wildfire threats
Most places in Southern California are at near-constant risk of wildfires. The lack of rain mixed with the heat can easily lead to a devastating natural disaster.

Famous Locations in Joshua Tree

  • Pioneertown
In Joshua Tree, California, you can find Pioneertown. A group of movie stars that included Dale Evans and Roy Rogers bought 32,000 acres and set it up as the 1880s themed village for filming, vacation, and residents. Today, Mane Street (Main Street) is a designated historical space and offers tours. Some of the features include a general store, saloon, and pottery shop as well as a jail, bathhouse, and restaurants.

  • Hi-Desert Nature Museum
If you want to learn more about the desert and the creatures that live there, Hi-Desert Nature Museum is the perfect spot for you to visit while you are in Joshua Tree. The natural history wing boasts a number of desert fauna dioramas with native wildlife in their natural habitats. There are insect displays, paleontology specimens, and even some gems and minerals from the Mojave Desert.

  • Joshua Tree National Park
This massive national park has over 790,000 acres of wilderness including two deserts; the Mojave and the Colorado Desert. You will also encounter the Little San Bernadino Mountain Range. Some people picture the desert as nothing but a vast expanse of dirt and cacti but in Joshua Tree National Park, you can camp, hike, go climbing, and of course, see the famous Joshua trees as well as plenty of other flora and fauna.
