Visually the home was absolutely perfect for our shoot. The host was incredibly kind and accommodating and was available if we needed help, but also gave us the space we needed to create. The living room area where we shot most of our footage was oversized and gave us plenty or room to have cameras, lighting equipment and monitors without creeping into the filming space. I will make note that if you are sensitive to cats and smells that come with them, this space may not be for you.

Margaret was very accommodating; some parking restrictions and time clarifications were the only caveats prior to the shoot and once we got on location, otherwise great space!

Pros and Cons of House Events in Houston

Choosing a house location for an event in Houston is a decision that should be based on the specific needs of the event. If you are planning a large event, you may want to consider a more traditional venue. However, if you are planning a smaller event or one that requires more personalization, a house location may be the best option for you:

Advantages

  • Hosting events at a house can create a more intimate and personalized experience than other event locations.

  • House-hosted events are usually a more affordable option compared to other available venues.

  • You can have more creative control over the decor and catering when hosting an event at a house.

  • Events in residential spaces can be more convenient for guests if close to their homes or office.

Disadvantages

  • House locations may not have as much space as other venues, which can limit your group size.

  • You may not find all the amenities you need on-site.

  • You will need to be mindful that there may not be any personnel to assist you with the setup and cleanup of your event.

  • There may be some limits on sound volume, music, and type of activity that can be held inside (e.g. adult filming).

Tips on How to Organize House Events in Houston

If you're considering renting a home space for your next event in Houston, here are some tips to help you get started:

  • Research potential venues: Conduct thorough research to find the right house location in Houston for your event. Look at factors like size, cost, parking, and amenities. Consider if there are any nearby attractions or activities that guests could enjoy before or after the event.

  • Book early: Booking a house early will give you more options and better pricing. Make sure that all of your contracts include a cancellation policy in case plans change or unforeseen circumstances arise.

  • Set up a budget: Before you start booking, create a budget for your event. This should include costs such as venue rental fees, decorations, catering services, audiovisual equipment rentals, and any other items that may be required for the event.

  • Create a timeline: Once everything is booked and planned out, create an event timeline that includes tasks such as setup, check-in procedures, entertainment schedules, etc. This will help ensure that things run smoothly during the actual event day.

  • Establish clear policies: Before the event begins, establish ground rules and policies with all staff members regarding noise levels, security protocols, and other safety measures. Outline expectations so everyone knows what is expected from them on the day of the event to ensure success.

It was first placed at the zoo's main entrance but was then moved to the Cambridge Street entrance in 2000. When it was relocated, it also underwent restoration. Fowler resided and worked in Houston, where many of his sculptures are still on display today in both public and private collections, most notably at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, as well as the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.
