Historic Albuquerque Hotel
From $100/hr
Historic Albuquerque Hotel
Albuquerque, NM
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, our Hotel proudly reflects its tradition and rich history. As the railroad pushed westward in the early part of the 1900’s, the men building it needed not only food and shelter, but also medical care and, at times hospitalization. The Santa Fe Hospital was founded in 1881, construction began in 1906 and it was finished in 1926. It continued to be a general hospital until 1968 and was then bought by Memorial Hospital and converted into a children psychiatric facility until 2010 and then it was repurposed into the beautiful boutique hotel it is today. An icon in Albuquerque, the smokestacks mark the Power House where steam generated by two coal fired boilers were the largest in their time. The face plate doors may be found in fitness center on the ground floor of the building. And the second floor housed the nurse's dormitory, heated only by what radiated from the boilers below. The Residence building was formerly the chief surgeon’s residence and remains largely unmodified. Sited on over 2 acres, the lush landscaping of the hotel grounds offers a park like setting in the heart of Albuquerque. Enjoy breakfast on the dining plaza off the Parlor or a good read in the garden by the fountain or relax in the outdoor Jacuzzi. Evenings are beautiful from the view of the rooftop deck at the Apothecary Lounge that offers prohibition era cocktails and small plate menu of international tapas. We welcome you and look forward to introducing you to the contemporary comforts and historic elegance of our hotel

Pros and Cons of Hosting a Wedding Reception in Albuquerque

Pros

  • Great food
New Mexico is rich in cultural and ethnic diversity, and its food scene reflects that. You’ll find inventive and traditional Native, Mexican and Spanish cuisine, as well as American Southwest staples.

  • Breathtaking sunsets
With clear skies framed by the Sandia Mountains, Albuquerque’s sunset skies are bright and colorful. Sunset makes a stunning backdrop for photos or a romantic dinner and dancing.

  • Affordable options
Compared to many mid-sized cities, amenities like food, lodging and entertainment are fairly affordable.

Cons

  • Wind and dust
Located squarely in the desert, Albuquerque is very dry for most of the year and has little in the way of dust mitigation. Tents may be difficult to anchor and blowing dust can be a problem.

  • Unpredictable weather
Because Albuquerque sits at almost a mile above sea level, winters, though sunny, are cold and blustery. Summer heat can be uncomfortable and the city is prone to flash flooding during the monsoon season in July and August.

  • Crime
Pockets of Albuquerque have high rates of poverty and unemployment, which can lead to high crime rates in those areas. Theft, property, and drug crimes are fairly common.
