Classic upstate studio and cottage with waterfalls

About the Space

This house dates back to 1790 when it was used as a wood mill because of the powerful waterfalls right behind the house. The house has a very old dutch cottage feel with a large stone fireplace. In the 70s it was purchased by modern artist Kamecke who built a large 2 story 2000sq ft barn-like studio for his sculpture art. Needing a space to paint and build large projects he made a studio oasis that gets glorious natural light from large picture windows. He also transitioned this modern rustic look into the house with a similar mid-century treatment exposing the dark red beams and putting up wood-paneled walls repurposed from a decaying barn on the property. We recently purchased this house as an abandoned foreclosure and we are doing the work ourselves to restore the property. Apologies for the low res photos but they are simply the listing photos! The house is not set up as a living space but rather we have tools around and doing a bit of work here and there. The house interior may look different than the photos but we are leaving the general aesthetic intact. The house sits flat on 4.6 acres but drops down to a deep gorge with a large deep swimming hole and half a dozen waterfalls. There are stacked stone walls, a small Japanese garden, an evergreen forest, a mixed deciduous forest, a meadow, a large ancient wisteria, multiple dilapidated outbuilding, potting sheds, and also an untamed garden. The wild, rustic look has attracted many fashion photographer friends to the property.
