Southbay Japanese Zen Room Studio (Washitsu)
Favorite
Share Washitsu (和室), meaning "Japanese-style room(s)", and frequently called a "tatami room" in English, is a Japanese term for a room in a house or apartment that has traditional tatami flooring. Washitsu also usually have sliding doors (fusuma), rather than hinged doors between rooms.
This room has very low table matched with 6 zabuton set on the tatami. (6 tatami= 6 jo-ma) Nowadays, many Japanese houses have only one washitsu, which is sometimes used for entertaining guests, and most rooms are Western-style. Many new construction Japanese apartments do not have washitsu at all, instead using linoleum or hardwood floors.
We have a custom approx 11ft x 10ft room with approx 11ft x 4ft hallway. 6 Zabuton cushions, 1 very low table, 2 double outlets, 4 recessed lightings in the room, 2 recessed lightings in hallway, AC ready.
