A number of adjectives come to mind when describing our place: rural, industrial, gritty, textured, atmospheric, high-desert, adobe, romantic... There are a million different angles and views that go on forever in the distance. We're only 75 minutes from Hollywood but a world away in atmosphere. Previously abandoned for 30 years, we saw the unique bones in this historic Antelope Valley gem and have removed layers here and added layers there on all 10 of the original adobe brick buildings. There's also the skeleton of a crumbling barn, two patinated thick-gage steel grain silos, a corrugated garage, and a small wood and windowed pump house.
Adobe Barns was built in the 1940s and was one of the first farms in the entire valley. Originally a poultry farm it was surrounded by hundreds of acres of wheat and alfalfa fields. We're minutes from the California State Poppy Reserve so we're covered with wild flowers each spring. We're also close to Ripley Desert Woodland State Park, filled with thousands of Joshua Trees.
