This space was just alright, and after using it for 4 hours, I found it was really not worth it for the price. I was also disappointed to see the pictures are not what the space actually looks like. The fact that we couldn't use the space like how I thought it looked in the pictures really sucked for what I had planned. I used this space to film footage on the stage, and was hoping to use the white background as well.
To the right of the stage it was unusable because there was a massive "curtained off" area that I didn't know about before renting. There is a black curtain behind the stage as well, not the black brick wall I was hoping for. The stage was so weak, that we were unable to use mic stands because it felt like a trampoline underneath us. The stage also had to be covered up because it looked so damaged/ugly - it does not look like the photo. The white wall was not as useful as I hoped because the white wall is curved at the bottom, but doesn't continue onto the ground, so any wide shot looks terrible.
The room was very hard to light, and we needed to bring lots of expensive lighting to make it look professional. LED lights in the ceiling we offered for an additional $100, but they were placed incorrectly for nice stage lighting so it would have been a waste of money. The video ended up looking good, but it took too many expensive steps to get there.
I have rented many places on this site that have all of these things (like lighting already there, nice walls, floors, backdrops) all for a lower price. I rented this place thinking it was worth it because of the stage, but the stage was not very practical or useful and we ended up having to cut it out of the shot.
Wow, having my event here was a great experience. The studio manager, Esteban, was wonderful. He was extremely helpful with the music setup and getting our event going. The communication with the Geary Studio was great, all throughout the process. The space is unique and it was especially great to rent music equipment from them (it was all good quality and worked well). The studio is equipped with supplies, water, and other things we needed. Overall I'm very pleased with the choice to use this venue for my event!
This was my second time booking the space, this time for a large dance show rehearsal.
