Also, here’s a little bit of information on background: In 2018, I earned a Masters from the Yale University School of Art. Selections of my work have been featured in Artforum, and shown nationally and internationally in exhibitions at David Zwirner New York, Ashes to Ashes New York, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography Chicago. I’ve given artist lectures and screened video works at Princeton University, and Harvard University. I am currently a Professor of Art in Photography at California State University, Long Beach.
I work in photography, performance, and video art. Drawing on my personal experiences, I work with actors, to create images of staged scenarios about family life. I cast actors based on my own family members. Using my Los Angeles neighborhood as a framework, my pictures and videos depict heated conversations and contemplative moments. My pictures emerge from an ongoing study and love for Black American neorealist cinema that uses fabulation and poetry to tell stories about family.
