Close to both New Haven and Hartford CT. We live in an 1885 Catholic Church that was originally converted into a residential home in 1960. We are the third family to live here. In 2020, we did an extensive make over of our home including adding modern bathrooms, modern kitchen, modern gas fireplace and upgraded basement. All of the modern upgrades fit exceptionally well into a traditional church setting. House includes 16 foot stained glass windows front and back as well along with 25 ft high ceilings. There are also stained glass windows throughout the home. Every room has been rebuilt, insulated, and painted. There is exceptional lighting as well as amazing natural lighting at sunrise and sunset. Indoor balcony offers the ideal camera location for numerous shots.
We have 3 brand new full baths (one on each floor) with the converted basement as the perfect place for makeup and wardrobe as well as storage for equipment and editing gear. This setting features two outdoor decks and a beautiful rock garden. The yard is home to almost 75 different plants including Japanese Elm, Weeping Cherry, Hydrangea, Azalea and Hosta plants.
Our home is located in the small rural community of Higganum, Haddam CT which is just south of Middletown, Connecticut. There is easy access to all the main highways and parking for up to 10 cars. Our area of the state includes the Goodspeed Theater, Gillette Castle, and the Connecticut River. We are minutes from Wesleyan University and the CT shoreline. We are 1/2 hour from Hartford and New Haven. Other towns in our area include Essex, Old Saybrook and Old Lyme.
There are very few homes that provide the type of setting this location can offer. It truly must be seen to be appreciated. As you can see from the photo's, there is still that Victorian Gothic elements accentuated by all the modern comforts of a brand new home...and it all fits together remarkably.
The Church (St. Peter's) was designed by Owen Brainard who had a hand in designing the NYC Public Library.
