Oaks Pioneer Church is an historic and picturesque event and wedding venue in the Sellwood neighborhood of inner Southeast Portland. Built in 1851, it is the oldest original structure church in the state of Oregon. This little chapel is non-denominational and welcomes all visitors regardless of race, gender, national origin, color, ethnicity, religion, disability, or sexual orientation. The church is a unique and charming place for couples looking for an intimate wedding venue, and a great back drop for all kinds of events including film shoots, photography shoots, concerts and performances. Our exceptional acoustics make us particularly great for live musical performances. The church adorns the bluff above Old Oaks Park and the Willamette River. We are nestled among meticulously kept grounds with a rose garden, rhododendrons, Japanese maples, and magnolias, all shaded by towering oak and elm trees. A brick-lined, pebblestone pathway guides guests through the main doors and into the church’s high ceiling interior. Stunning wood craftsmanship reaches from floor to ceiling with antique brass chandeliers adding a warm glow to the ambiance. Stained glass windows are an elegant backdrop to the raised altar, and a period pot-belly stove in the back corner of the little church. Eighteen pews allow for seating of up to 75 guests. There is a bathroom and dressing room in the church’s west wing and an organ on the altar allowing for music accompaniment. We are handicap accessible too!
