About the Space

Mixology has experienced a remarkable boom in the world of metropolitan nightlife for several years now. Many bars around the world are now competing with each other, just like the restaurant industry, promoting "personalities" in charge of the traditional counter where, in the past, a person would quietly and discreetly work. The project was born from a seasoned team of mixologists in Montreal who wanted to establish themselves in a neighborhood undergoing a transformation. The space was highly secretive, located in the basement of a former industrial building that once served as a warehouse, tucked away at the end of a narrow passage between two large buildings. It was this particular choice of space that became the starting point for the project idea. In contrast to the neutral nature of a storage facility, the emphasis was placed on creating an entertaining venue that would evoke the material quality of old industrial spaces. The design incorporated the structural elements of 19th-century architecture: the steel framework and rubble walls became ornamental components, while the floor was modulated to create elevated subspaces, accommodating booths and high counters for group consumption. The original brick vault was also preserved and served as a focal point, housing the preparation areas at its center.
