About the Space

Lightwood is in rural Surry County. The house stands on 110 private acres, consisting of old-growth beech and oak forest, meadows and streams. There are over 2 miles of hiking trails. The area is quiet, with plenty of room for support facilities and plenty of parking. The house itself is a fully restored Colonial Virginia house built in several sections, 1760, 1789, 1795 and 1815. It is furnished with period antiques and reproductions. Because it was built in different periods if offers a variety of period styles, from an earlier more rustic colonial style. to high Federal. The interior would be suitable for portraying periods from the late 17th century through the Civil War. The grounds are extensive, quiet and with plenty of room for support facilities and parking. The house is already used for vacation rentals and weddings, so there is no problem with access to all rooms.The town of Surry is 1 and 1/2 miles away, with restaurants and a motel. Nearby is more rural land, bordering on a wide and beautiful tidal river, Gray's Creek. Lightwood is a perfect step back in time.
