About the Space
Our Story: Lizzy teamed up with POPULATE CREATIVE to bring Tailored’s vision for their flagship salon into reality. A little background: Years ago, POPULATE CREATIVE owner, Steve Lauberth walked in for haircut. At the time, Lizzy was cutting hair out of a 100 sq. ft. studio that had 0 windows. Although it was cozy and hosted many good memories, Lizzy had a dream of creating a space that was both exceptional for cutting hair along with encouraging a sense of community with the team and clients. She dreamed of a place where a client could come in before their haircut to enjoy a delicious cappuccino and work on their computer or post-haircut, grab a beer with a good friend. After almost 8 years of being in business, Tailored’s flagship location has been unveiled... A 70’s inspired modern lounge with a cool, funky vibe. Clientele are treated as family and welcomed to grab a beer while flipping through the curated collection of vinyl while they wait. The key to the design of the space was to provide a destination for Tailored’s clients and team to have a place that feels like their second home. The focal point of the waiting area or “living room” is a vintage record player and custom walnut console with a circular, overhead shelving system. 5, yes 5, disco balls sourced from “the disco ball queen” Yo Yo Baker surround the record player and illuminate the space at dusk. Guests chill out on a vintage sectional from Herman Miller with a colorful shag rug. Nearby, a large Saarinen style table provides guests a place to plug in and get some work done. It would not be a lounge without a great bar.... a custom mirror and walnut bar lined with black vinyl and faux cowhide barstools completes the front area of the salon. Moving back through the space and into the services area, clients are treated to the plush Takara Belmont barber chairs. Nelson inspired barber “consoles” with remote controlled mirror lights complete the elevated look and feel of the custom fabricated barbering stations. 4 comfy Takara Belmont shampooing basins front the eye-catching, metallic tile wall by Spec Ceramics. Step into the restroom and fast-forward a decade to the 80’s. Audio cassette shaped ceramic tiles by Clayhaus are stacked as a feature wall here. Grab your favorite mix tape and pop it into the boom box. Mullet memories abound. Interior Design by: Populate Creative Creative Director/Owner: Steve Lauberth Designer: Michelle Harper
