Welcome to THE MORTIMER CLUB: a visually arresting, story-rich location that feels equal parts eccentric estate, curated gallery, and dreamscape retreat. Built in the 1860s and "Victorianized" a few decades later, this historic upstate NY home was completely restored, renovated, and redesigned (with a nod to its design history) starting in 2017. This one-of-a-kind home offers multiple distinct looks within a single property, making it an exceptionally versatile setting for photo shoots, feature films, television, commercials, and editorial work. The exterior is a proper Painted Lady color scheme in plum, light and dark grays, and pink. The wraparound porch overlooks the moss lawn, while the three-story turret rises over the hillside and offers a view of the home's gardens. The entrance hallway, featuring a gorgeous silver grandfather clock, golden glitter ceiling, and original staircase, leads to the matte-black music room, which has a baby grand piano and 8 foot pier mirror from the 1840s. Following through, you'll reach the charming dining room, which has "Mad Hatter" mixed chairs around an 1940s back-painted mirror dining table and beautiful green chinoiserie wall panels. The double French doors lead to the porch. Through the next doorway is the enormous great room and kitchen, all in white, royal blue, and gold with features including a taxidermy white peacock perched upon a restored 1890s fireplace mantel, a working gramophone, and gourmet chef's oven among others. There’s a powder room with cheeky peacock wallpaper, and then comes the parlor, which boasts the original fireplace mantel, stunning Greek-key inlaid wood floors, wall paneling, and built-in bookcases. Up the front stairs you'll reach a hallway that's entirely fuchsia, from the wall trim to the furniture, with a massive gilt mirror. The Primary en suite has another wallpapered ceiling and modern four-poster bed, pass-through walk-in closet, and a gigantic bathroom with Gaultier citrine floral wallpaper that extends into the stand-alone shower, and a deep purple soaking tub nestled in the windowed bay of the turret. There are two other bedrooms on the second floor, as well as a black-and-white guest bath with double sinks, double shower, and pink glitter floor tile. The Boudoir is our Art Deco jewel-box bedroom, done in pale pink and emerald green, and featuring a white deco 3D ceiling and perfectly restored dressing table from the 1920s. The Library is our gentleman's retreat, with dark tones and book cases that have secrets to reveal... including the staircase to the hidden attic! The attic covers the entire footprint of the house, and is a Bohemian's playground. Over the background of layers of peeling paper and exposed beams are tons of cushions, draped fabrics, and mismatched vintage light fixtures, making the perfect setting for relaxing (or hosting a murder mystery?). A projector and screen are cleverly hidden among the antique treasures, along with a swing, a claw-foot bathtub filled with "bubbles," and spooky baby carriage. The last stop, of course, is the turret room. where a friendly ghost is just waiting for you to get a tarot reading... under a 20 foot ceiling that's painted with stars.
