About the Space

A cozy underground playground - a basement black box theatre and social, gathering space hidden away from the world. We offer you the flexibility to reconfigure our stage and seating on risers, tech and DJ booth, projector and screen, bar area, dressing room, kitchen and back office to realize your dreams. We have the toys, you have the idea. HERE ARE SOME TYPES OF EVENTS WE ARE GOOD AT GATHERINGS - Whether you’re throwing a birthday party or corporate event, our motto is, ‘Let us be your aunties and uncles.’ Our space is intimate and we love making our guests feel like they are in a kitschy, comfy family gathering at home. WORKSHOPS, CLASSES, MEETINGS - Come down into our creative underground space, hide from the world for a bit, and immerse yourself and your students or colleagues in the material. FILMING & PHOTOGRAPHY - Need to film a show reel or trailer and a black box would be useful? Filming a piece that takes place in a theater or cultural, social space? REHEARSALS, OPEN REHEARSALS, OPEN STAGE - We are a theatre with seating on risers and great technology. HERE IS WHAT MAKES US GOOD AT RUNNING EVENTS (IN ADDITION TO OUR TEAM, WHICH IS CRAZY EXCELLENT) FLEXIBILITY - Our space is insanely flexible, our team insanely creative and kind. Curtains can open and close spaces and transform them. You can pop out and make a grand entrance here, there, anywhere. We can create a long dining or meeting table, a podium for powerful speeches, a dance floor, a karaoke fever dream. STAGE / DANCE FLOOR / GATHERING AREA - We have a lovely stage area with wooden floor that easily converts into a dance floor. There are risers that fit 40-50 seats. These can be changed to cabaret style seating with little tables and candles. The seats can be removed completely and guests lounge on cushions on the risers. We can set up large tables on stage for meetings or meals. TECH - We have great tech - speakers, disco lighting and balls, stage lighting, mics, mic stands, projector and screen for showing embarrassing or touching videos or doing karaoke. AIR CON - Our air con unit is giant but tucked away and non-invasive. It even has a quiet mode. We call it the Millennium Falcon because it is so large (and powerful). DRESSING ROOM & KITCHEN - We have a dressing/kitchen room tucked away, with a shower, sink, fridge, stove - useful for any behind-the-scenes prep. SOCIAL AREA & BAR - Our social area has a bar with giant drinks fridge, kitschy decor, and tables and chairs that can be configured in many layouts. PIANO! We have an electric baby grand. RED CARPETED STAIRS - To enter our space, you must go down the tatty west-end red carpet. Drama. History. BACK OFFICE - We have a mad back office with a big ol’ programming calendar on the wall… if that is at all useful to you. PROPS & FURNITURE - We are a theatre. We can't help but accumulate a menagerie of odd objects. Tell us your dream. We probably have the props and costumes for it in our back room.
