About the Space

Welcome to Bordello 1923, a Parisian inspired bohemian artist's apartment. This historic DTLA Beaux Arts building, is a highly desirable corner unit within a former department store, the space offers soaring ceilings, original moldings, and architectural scale. The interiors are layered for the camera: an authentic Art Deco rug anchors the space, while a Victorian sofa, sculptural Helix tables, and swivel tulip chairs provide strong, silhouettes. Other pieces include designer slipper chairs, an iconic Rougher tulip lamp, a variety of candlesticks, barware and a curated collection of luxurious art create depth. The balance of modern pieces and Old Hollywood Deco gives the space flexibility—timeless, editorial, and adaptable to multiple concepts. Warehouse chicken-wire windows that may be opened or closed with views of a graffitied parking structure deliver gritty scenes, textured daylight throughout the day, ideal for both natural-light shoots. The high ceilings and original commercial proportions make wide frames, movement, and dramatic compositions effortless. The bedroom is especially compelling for portraits and fashion work, featuring views of the historic Eastern Columbia Building and a rare storm window sourced from Rockefeller Center in New York—an architectural detail that adds authenticity and narrative to close-up and lifestyle shots alike. This is a space designed for creatives who understand how environments shape images. It photographs clean, rich, and intentional—whether you’re building a fashion story, a portfolio update, a test shoot, or a cinematic moment. Well suited for: • Fashion editorials & test shoots • Portrait, lifestyle, and personal branding sessions • Model portfolio development • Design-forward film & content creation A considered, character-rich location for creatives who want their work to feel elevated, composed, and enduring. Note: The kitchen and bathroom are functional and available for use. While not styled for shooting, most productions focus on the main salon, bedroom, and window areas. The main room, entryway, private fire escape, and bedroom/ bathroom window areas are ideal for editorial shoots. You have free range of the apartment, and are welcome to shoot the other areas. We will renovate the bathroom when our budget allows. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to enhance your booking.

I have been at one of the other After Hours Vintage studio locations and had an amazing experience, so I already knew that this space would also be great to shoot at! Our host, Bridget, was incredibly communicative and made sure we had everything we needed ahead of time. The space is super pretty and has so much variety of looks. I specially really loved the fire escape which was so fun to shoot at and the natural lighting in the evening outdoors was stunning. I also really loved the livingroom setup! The glossy finish of the wall paint was so pretty in the photos and the color choices were 10/10. I am super happy with how the photos came out. Great spot, would definitely be back and absolutely recommend you book a shoot at all of the After Hours Vintage locations!
