About the Space

Bordello 1923 is a Parisian-inspired bohemian artist apartment set within a historic DTLA Beaux Arts building, designed as a fully realized cinematic environment for fashion, portrait, and film production. Soaring ceilings, sculptural furnishings, and shifting natural light combine to create a space that feels instantly composed on camera—transportive, editorial, and intentionally designed for image-making from the moment you enter. The interiors are layered with production in mind: an authentic Art Deco rug anchors the main space, while a silk Victorian sofa, sculptural Helix tables, and swivel tulip chairs create strong, readable silhouettes that hold beautifully in frame. Warehouse-style chicken-wire windows can be opened or closed, revealing gritty views of a graffitied parking structure while delivering textured, evolving daylight throughout the day—ideal for natural-light shoots and atmospheric variation. The original commercial proportions and high ceilings support wide compositions, movement, and cinematic blocking with ease. The hallway functions as a built-in styling set, with rich high gloss paint to create reflective depth. A monumental Rococo gilded mirror expands light and space on camera, while sculptural accents—including a signature tulip lamp, designer candlesticks, refined barware, and a curated art collection—create intentional, ready-made vignettes throughout the frame. The contrast between modern design elements and Old Hollywood deco detailing gives the space a flexible visual language, allowing it to shift seamlessly between timeless editorial, narrative storytelling, and contemporary luxury aesthetics depending on how it is shot. The bedroom offers an especially compelling setting for portrait and fashion work, featuring framed views of the historic Eastern Columbia Building behind a velvet curtain, while the headboard—a repurposed storm window sourced from Rockefeller Center in New York—adds architectural character and narrative depth to close-up compositions and lifestyle imagery. Bordello 1923 is designed for creatives who think in images, not just locations. It photographs with clarity, richness, and intention—whether for fashion editorials, portfolio building, test shoots, brand campaigns, or cinematic storytelling.

I have been at one of the other After Hours Vintage studio locations and had an amazing experience, so I already knew that this space would also be great to shoot at! Our host, Bridget, was incredibly communicative and made sure we had everything we needed ahead of time. The space is super pretty and has so much variety of looks. I specially really loved the fire escape which was so fun to shoot at and the natural lighting in the evening outdoors was stunning. I also really loved the livingroom setup! The glossy finish of the wall paint was so pretty in the photos and the color choices were 10/10. I am super happy with how the photos came out. Great spot, would definitely be back and absolutely recommend you book a shoot at all of the After Hours Vintage locations!
