Billy the Kid Country

This is a small (704 sq ft) mountain cabin, located in the Sacramento Mountains of south-central New Mexico, in Lincoln County. The cabin is at 7,300' elevation and has an unobstructed view of 12,003' Sierra Blanca Mountain. It is approximately 15 miles from Ruidoso NM, and seven miles from Sierra Blanca Regional Airport. The cabin is post and beam, built on a hillside. It has an enclosed crawlspace (1/3 of crawlspace is standing height). The cabin has a steeply-pitched metal roof and tan stucco exterior. The main floor of the cabin is approximately 500 sq ft, with approximately 200 sq ft in a loft under the pitched roof (restricted headroom). The loft is accessed by a narrow, spiral staircase. The cabin sits on six acres of open juniper and ponderosa forest. Approximately three acres were cleared by the former owner for horses. Nearby are the historic towns of Capitan (burial place of Smokey Bear, 16 miles), and Lincoln (Lincoln County War/Billy the Kid, 22 miles). The intact 1855 Apache War Fort Stanton cavalry post is 12 miles away. Note: The property consists of two tracts. The cabin is on one acre, with an adjacent five undeveloped acres. While contiguous, the tracts are in separate subdivisions. The five acre tract has a number of restrictive covenants; the cabin tract has none.
