About the Space
Chateau Cara is an Italianate brownstone townhouse, built in 1879, and situated just north of Prospect Park. The house is located in the quaint neighborhood of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn right off the B and Q, 7th Avenue subway station. Chateau Cara has recently undergone a four year gut renovation and historic restoration, with the integrity of the original house as the forefront of the project. The owner modernized where necessary, while restoring every salvageable detail to her greatest ability. The house has an amazing history of previous owners being artists; one painter, and her husband a clock connoisseur, one opera singer, his wife a known writer. Chateau Cara was featured on the cover of Brownstoner Magazine for their Winter 2021 edition, with an impressive 16 page spread, and detailed article. Chateau Cara has also been used to shoot fashion campaigns for brands such as Aurora Vestita, and Ziazan New York, and used as a location for small films and TV productions. The style of Chateau Cara can only be described as a mixture of Marie Antoinette's Petite Palais meets Alice and Wonderland down the rabbit hole, with 1960's rock and roll bohemian vibes, and fabrics and wallpaper purchased in foreign open air markets from India and the Silk Road in China, to Romania to the south of France. The house has five working, wood-burning fireplaces, a backyard with a 100-year-old footed bathtub, a traditional library, a proper English garden with a large rose quartz table and fairy lights, and an outdoor deck and spiral staircase which has been used for small yoga classes and sound baths. Chateau Cara also boasts a half glass/half metal, eco-friendly, indoor/outdoor radiant heated art studio, a Victorian library, a dressing room, and three and a half bathrooms. The kitchen features rose quartz countertops, a pink SMEG fridge and toaster, and has an original coal burning stove made in 1760, which is no longer in operation, but remains as a nod to the original design. It is quite rare to come across a property with these amenities and this deep, rich history. This is a unique house with many original quirks.

Chateau Cara is truly a spectacular location! Cara has such an elevated and unique design style that perfectly complemented our brand’s Spring collection – everything from the furniture to the artwork and decorations. She was a very accommodating and helpful host, and I would absolutely recommend this location to anyone considering it. A million thanks to both Cara and her sweet pup for such a wonderful experience!
