About the Space
1930 Spanish Revival in Historic Highland Park in Los Angeles, original features from 30s lovingly preserved; Claycraft fireplace, huge backyard, saltillo tile, hardwood, coved ceilings, lots of french windows, original tile, Spanish front door, lots of character. set on a single lot featuring a water feature on the porch. Drought tolerant front yard with a curvy walkway right down the middle; 2 big, shady trees on the parkway and one on the right side of the front of the house; The porch and walkway is Mexican tile and has a tiled bistro table with two chairs; large picture window. The front door is original Spanish revival with a peek-a-boo tiny (Speakeasy style) door/window that swings opens. The long driveway goes alongside the left side of the house and is more narrow than driveways on newer homes; it leads back to a 2-car garage that looks fine when it is closed, otherwise it is filled with stuff and not in great shape. The backyard is part concrete and part grassy/dirt area. There is a slight slope and the concrete is broken in spots due to a 40ft camphor tree right in the middle of the yard. It’s a great tree and provides lots of shade. Picnic table and plenty of seating for lunches. There is a backdoor entrance to the laundry room which also houses the stainless steel French door refrigerator. There are some tools stored there too. The kitchen has old Spanish charm with Saltillo tiles with an oak tint. The cabinets have glass insets. Right now the cabinets are painted back to the green color the original owners had. There is a vintage stove and tile counter tops. Inside cabinets have original features like drawers still lined with metal to use as a big flour scoop and slatted shelves in some cabinets that was used to ripen fruit and veggies. An arched doorway leads to the breakfast nook with two built in cabinets in 2 corners. There are 6 french windows with blinds. A couple of chairs and a small table with oil cloth covering takes up most of the space. The house has coved ceiling throughout most of the rooms. Original hardwood floors throughout. The living room has a stunning and rare Claycraft fireplace with a bulbous mantle. Curved entry way into the dining room which has a table and a couple of chairs. The bathroom has original yellow and black tile with all the cracks you would expect from a 90+ year old house. There are two arches in there; one in bathtub area and the other in the toilet area. counter and built-ins and deep tub. The two bedrooms have coved ceilings and one has french windows. The closets also have windows! The street is on the narrow side; Parking should be somewhere in a an offsite parking lot with shuttle and one large truck in front of house. Do not disturb neighbors.
