Yearly we have film and photography students attend to prepare images for their first year assessments. However we are an active trading bicycle shop and workshop. We prepare, repair, build and customise bicycles. As an industrial space the floor is concrete, patched with layers of years painting which is chipped and weathered. About Cardiff

Cardiff is located in Wales, UK, and in 1953 it was given the title of the capital city. Only holding about 375,000 residents, Cardiff is not too big, population-wise. However, the tourist culture brings in a whopping 18 million people through each year! That’s a LOT of people in one place.

One of the many attractions that draw tourists to Cardiff is the freshwater bay that the city sits beside. You can view music, performing arts, visual arts, sports and recreational events all down by the bay! Cardiff is also home to the St. Davids shopping centre, which is one of the largest shopping centres in the whole United Kingdom. There is no lack of activities to do while finding a filming location in Cardiff.

Many well-known people have come from Cardiff. Famous children’s book author Roald Dahl was born and spent most of his childhood here. Henry Morgan, or should we refer to him as Captain Morgan, was born in Cardiff back in the 15th century. The history goes back centuries here, and we hope you can find a place in the present to make some history of your own at a filming studio in Cardiff.

Filming Options in Cardiff

Spending your time searching for the perfect filming studio in Cardiff? We have put together a small but mighty list to help you achieve a smooth timeline for shooting using all that Cardiff has to offer.

  • Filming Camera
There are many different types of video cameras in filmmaking and using the right equipment is essential to your experience in the studio. Learning the difference between a point-and-shoot camera, a twin-lens reflex camera or a rangefinder camera will help you achieve the right shot. Lucky, in Cardiff, there are several film camera shops and most have professionals with a wide range of experience working in them!

  • Lighting
While shooting a scene, the lighting is very important. From what colours you would like to bring out to your central focus being magnified, light plays a huge part. Many tricks of the camera are light-focused, so achieving the right light is necessary for quality takes. Finding the right shop with a wide range of lighting options is an essential factor to your time in the studio.

  • Music
In most films, you’ll find background music playing. This is often called a score or soundtrack, emphasizing what is happening on-screen. It gives the film emotion and sets the mood for what you are trying to portray. Background music can be used as a tool to connect with your audience.

  • Set Designer
While we may think we can do it all, there are educated professions who can bring a level of expertise in filming areas like set design. A set designer’s job is to take your script and bring it to life, from the ground up. From backgrounds, learning the angles, and bringing in props or furniture, the knowledge behind designing a set only comes from experience.

Pros and Cons of Filming Studios in Cardiff

Pros

  • Historical Castles
In the entirety of Wales, there are over 600 castles! In Cardiff specifically, there are 21. Some of these castles are merely mounds, but many are still standing. Either way, the history behind historical buildings (such as castles) is highly inspirational.

  • Festival Culture
Cardiff is known as a festival city. Many music, film and photography festivals come in and out of Cardiff each year such as “Hay on Wye”, and “The Big Cheese”. While finding the perfect film studio in Cardiff, take some time and check out their film festivals! You may meet some exciting people.

  • Easy To Get Around

Cons

  • Communication
Becayse Cardiff is in Wales, the majority of the residents speak Welsh. If you are from a different area of the world, or even from a separate area of the UK and aren’t familiar with the language, it could be a bit tricky communicating.

  • Narrow Roads
While most of England has narrow roads, the roads in Wales – and Cardiff especially – are not only narrow, but most don’t even hold two cars passing each other! This can cause traffic jams, which can leave you taking more time than planned getting to where you would like to be.

Famous Locations in Cardiff

  • Cardiff Castle
With an Original Roman fort underneath, Cardiff Castle is one of Wales’s leading tourist attractions. Over 2000 years old, the Medieval castle was updated in the Victorian era and Gothic-style architecture was added to the exterior during the update. Talk about a mash-up of the times!

  • National Museum of Cardiff
Founded in 1905 and granted a royal charter in 1907, one step inside the National Museum of Cardiff will have you learning the dense history of the land of Wales. The collections inside include Botony, Fine Art, Geology and Zoology.

  • Roath Park
During fair-weather months, everyone visits Roath Park. Roath Park was the first public park in Cardiff, founded in the year 1894, and it is very popular for fishing and rowing in the Nant Fawr stream. The park has a little bit of everything – parks, a cafe and washrooms. Spend an afternoon at Roath Park to enjoy the summer Welsh-style.
