Top Features to Look For in a Lake House Venue
Lake houses have one obvious thing in common, but beyond that, they can vary quite a lot. Some are tiny rustic cabins with basic amenities only, while others may be luxurious waterfront mansions. Think about the kind of event you're planning, then look for the features that are going to make your life easier.
Is the location right? Some lake houses are within the city limits, while others are miles away. Do you want to be far away from the noise and traffic of the city, or do you want easy access to all the amenities it provides? Your answer to that question will help determine what lake house is best for you.
What's the capacity like? You want to make sure that your lake house has enough space for all your guests and participants. Think about your guest list, or the kind of shots you want to get, and choose a house with enough space to work with.
Is it accessible? Logistics always matter. How will people get to your lake house events? Some lake houses are water access only, so be aware of that before you book.
Pros and Cons of Booking a Lake House For Events or Filming
Lake houses always look beautiful, but there's more to consider than just looks. Don't forget both the pros and cons of these venues before you make your booking:
Advantages
-
It's hard to beat the scenic beauty of a beautiful house with a shining silver lake right out front. Whether you're shooting photos or having a party, a lake house provides a stunning setting.
-
Lake houses offer privacy for your events. That makes them an ideal setting for weddings and film projects.
-
Having a whole lake house at your disposal can make catering easier, as you may have a full kitchen to work with.
Disadvantages
-
Not all lake houses are easy to get to. Some are down bad roads unsuitable for trucks, while others may be water-access only.
-
Nature can be beautiful, but it can also be annoying. Being close to the water means you may have problems with bugs like mosquitoes and other wildlife.
-
Lake houses are at their best during summer. In many parts of the country, lakes freeze in the winter, which may take something away from the aesthetic you were going for.
Hidden Costs of Events at a Lake House
Because lake houses are so popular, they aren't always cheap. Giggster can help you find an affordable option, with prices starting at just £15/hour. But keep an eye on these other costs that may creep up.
Be mindful of transportation costs.
Depending on where your lake house is located, it could cost a lot of money to get there. That's especially true if it is boat or floatplane access only. Look for houses that are well connected to the road network to keep these costs down.
How about getting supplies?
At more remote lake houses, you'll need to bring everything with you, as you can't simply run to the store for whatever you need. That may cause you to overbuy certain items, costing you more money.
What's included?
Does the Lakehouse have Internet access, and if so, do you need to pay extra for that, or is it included in your rental? Will you be provided with consumables like propane for the grill, or do they cost extra? Are there any cleaning fees? These are things to establish on the Giggster app before you make your booking, so you don't get surprised by unexpected charges.
