About Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a 2008 American comedy film, written by Jason Segel and co-produced with Judd Apatow. It stars some of the biggest names in Hollywood at the time, including Segel himself, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, and Russell Brand. Universal Pictures was responsible for its cinema release on April 18th, 2008 in North America and April 25th in the UK. Its filming lasted a month long and it took place at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu Island's North Shore.

The story of Forgetting Sarah Marshall follows the heartbroken Peter Bretter, who composes music for a TV show that also stars his girlfriend, Sarah Marshall. After being together for five years, Sarah calls it quits and Peter is left in emotional shambles. In an attempt to clear his head, he vacations to Hawaii—only to realize Sarah is there as well with her new beau. Unexpectedly, he finds himself in an awkward position.

Director Nicholas Stoller revealed that Judd Apatow was heavily involved in the casting and scripting process of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He further mentioned that, while the first draft of the script called for Peter to clothe himself post-breakup, Apatow thought it would be funnier if the character stayed undressed throughout the scene. As you’d expect, the results are indeed hilarious.
