Perdita's review is disheartening because prior to booking, the rules of the space in light of the current COVID situation were clearly communicated in writing and over phone to both Perdita and the event planner. As a business owner it is my obligation to ensure that I provide a clean and above all safe space for all rentals and unfortunately my effort to ensure that everyone was being compliant with the health and safety protocols put in place by public health and as the manager of the studio were misconstrued and above all not followed by this rental. No one sanitized their hands upon entering the space, they were not compliant to physical distancing and they showed up with twice as many people allowed in the space (I was clear that the studio had a max. capacity of 10 people). The conversation that is being alluded to in Perdita’s review was a difficult one to have because I was not provide with proper contact information and got passed around to multiple people on the phone when I wanted to have a conversation about the team not following the rules of the space. When I was finally able to speak with Perdita’s producer she too agreed that that while the province allows a max of 50 for a production that is incumbent on the square footage, and the space that they had rented was not one that could hold such a large capacity. I was also clear that it was not communicated to more prior to booking that this many people would be filtering in and out of the space and so I was blind sighted the day of and I had to do my part to make sure that the team was adhering to the rules of the space and what they had agreed to in their booking – no more than 10. It is upsetting that I am being slandered for doing what is right by health and safety protocols put in place by public health and rules that have but put in the space and that were clearly explained prior to booking. If these were not suitable, Perdita could have found another space, however I will not risk the well-being of my patrons for the sake of one person’s shoot. I was within my right to show up and shut the production down but I spoke with the producer who gave me clarity on all the things Perdida was not forthcoming about when booking the space, and I then trusted that the rules of the space would be respected. The sad part is that when I showed up the close the space the team was dashing out as quickly as they could, running away in their cars as I pulled up and so what could’ve been resolved in a 5 min conversation is now showing up as a review here. The lack of respect for the space in this instance is alarming because had I not showed up at the time I did – which was earlier than when the booking was supposed to end – anyone could’ve come into the building, a big security risk. Personally, I also feel very disrespected by this team and their total disregard for the rules of the space and my willingness to ensure that the space is kept safe for everyone. In these unprecedented times we should all be doing better to make sure that we are not putting other’s at risk and unfortunately team did not hold up their end of the bargain. In the end, I was happy to accommodate Perdida’s needs and make the space work – and excited to do so to have a Canadian icon and Olympic athlete chose the space. Glad to hear that the space worked out and the team was able to create some magic. I would hope in future that the participants of this production be thoughtful about their actions and respectful of the COVID protocols in place to ensure that they do not jeopardize the health and safety of all those using this shared space.
