About the Space
The Southern Zen™ is a relaxing oasis near downtown Charleston and the Ashley River. Conveniently located in the desired neighborhood of Avondale on a street lined with Live Oaks and Spanish moss. Built in 1947, The Southern Zen™'s many windows allow for immense amounts of natural light, creating an open and airy feel throughout. The cottage features a newly remodeled Chef's Kitchen and new bathroom addition with exposed brick. Three updated bedrooms with nice windows can easily be used as dressing rooms if you're a bride getting ready with your bridesmaids. The outdoor space is a Japanese inspired Zen garden including handmade natural water features, custom built seating, a custom built Japanese style foot bridge, and a fire pit option. A winding rock path leads to the backyard spot that we like to call "Under the Magnolia Tree." This gorgeous spot is perfect for outdoor dining, photoshoots, or just lounging in the abundant shade. There is also an outdoor shower with Japanese style privacy screen and garden beds filled with edible flowers and herbs. The Southern Zen was amazing. The location was clean and ready to go when we arrived. Ann (the host) had also setup some snacks and drinks for us. Which was wonderful. I would definitely use The Southern Zen again! Also Ann’s very adorable (and silent) senior pup kept us company while we were setting up and taking down.
