About the Space
The Captain Albert Johnson house is a simple Victorian farmhouse in the Eastlake style. It is a registered local landmark and one of the first homes built in Monrovia. The Eastlake aesthetic is characterized by a sharp, angular, often square appearance, horizontal siding, squared bay windows and carved, elaborate wood decorations. The deep front porch has a spindled frieze and a guilloche design on the outside upper corners of the porch. The house retains its original siding. The original plain glass window in the tower was replaced by stained glass, and the crown on top of the tower was reconstructed by a previous owner. This house also has a “ghost” story: The Johnson’s only surviving daughter, Alberta, died in her upstairs bedroom, and reportedly haunts the house occasionally. The property has been completely restored to its turn-of-the-century aesthetic. Everything in the house is period correct, from the lighting to the plumbing. The kitchen and bathrooms reflect a 1900-1920s era while the original rooms reflect the 1880s roots of the house. The gardens are lush and a plunge pool in the style of a reflecting pool has been installed in the rear yard. There is an original brick carriage house at the rear of the property that is also restored and is used as guest house. It has brick walls inside and out with soaring beamed ceilings.

Andre was a fantastic host. Incredibly responsive, friendly, and supportive throughout our production. Their property was full of fantastic detail and care, exactly what we needed for our horror short film.
- booked a photo shoot
I have to say that the photos of this house as beautiful as they are still don’t do it justice. It’s exquisitely taken care of. And there’s so much care and thought put into the landscaping, the decor, and honestly the entire home itself. You can tell this home was made by someone who truly loves it, the owners are kind, warm and so appreciative of people who give their home the same care they give it. Would highly recommend renting this place if you need an ideal backdrop for your next creative needs.

The hosts were so accommodating and we loved shooting in their beautiful space!
- booked a filming
This is the best house ever !!! The interior design was immaculate and the layout of the house was perfect for what we were shooting (coming of age narrative). Every room had so much character, we couldn’t have set designed something as perfect if we tried. Joshua and his husband were lovely, would use this space again in a heart beat.
- booked a filming
This location was an absolute dream! The home was in perfect condition and even more beautiful in person. The space also has amazing energy and a peaceful yard that made filming with a large team very pleasant. The host was extremely communicative and helpful throughout the booking and filming process.
