About the Space
Grade II listed 5 storey Georgian townhouse circa 1790, 5 minutes' walk from Margate's historic Old Town, less than 10 minutes' walk from Margate's Main Sands, 10 minutes' walk from Margate train station and on a wide, quiet street opposite the Carl Freedman gallery and Tracey Emin's studio. Originally built to mimic London townhouses for the city's ‘discerning aristocracy’ to use as holiday homes, carefully restored to its former glory, with many original features. 3,500 sq feet. Features include grand entrance hall, large rooms, high ceilings, cornicing, paneling, wooden shutters, ceiling roses, original staircase and spindles, large wooden sash and bay windows, period wooden floors, ornate wooden doors, original radiators, antique light fittings, two freestanding baths (one of which is copper) and multiple period fireplaces. The walls have been lime plastered, as they would have been originally, in an array of unique, period-appropriate pigments, giving the interior an eclectic bohemian look and offering multiple backdrop choices for shoots. Has a large opulent living room spanning the width of the house, 5 double bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 5 showers, 5 working loos, and can sleep 10 comfortably (or more, with additional bedding). Has a large kitchen/diner (which leads into the private high-walled back garden) with a large kitchen table plus a kitchen island. Includes 3 cellars. Includes a separate annex/granny flat with its own kitchenette with working oven, hob, microwave and sink, and its own separate entrance via the garden. Fully furnished with an assortment of complementary antique and modern furniture including ornate mirrors, vintage rugs, writing desks, sofas, chaise lounges etc. Also have a number of artworks throughout the house - a combination of originals, artist's proofs and prints. The house is accessed via three entrances - (i) from the street via the door in the back garden wall, (ii) from the gate in the iron railings along the front of the house which leads down through the small courtyard adjacent to the cellars and into the kitchen, (iii) through the front door. A working wood-burning stove is in the kitchen-diner together with an upright piano, two fridge freezers, a 6-ring hob, and plenty of cookware and kitchen utensils, and there are two WiFi portals in the house to allow full coverage throughout the building. The master bedroom, at the top of the house, besides having an ensuite bathroom and its own TV and writing desk, also has a kettle, microwave and fridge. There are two 50+ inch flatscreen TVs with a full range of streaming services: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Apple TV, 4od, BBC iPlayer, Now TV. The back garden includes two outdoor seating areas, a fountain and mounted lights. Functioning utilities: gas, electricity, water, heating.
