About the Space

A traditional East End boozer since 1856 and we want to ensure that it stays that way for a long time to come. So when we took over the 155 year old pub in 2013 we saw it was in need of a little bit of tender loving care, but rather than follow the all too familiar path of defacing a historic gem we meticulously restored some of the pub's original features, including resurrecting two working fireplaces and the discovery of the pub's unusual vinyl flooring, which was unseen since the 1930s and provides a great dance floor. We have also turned the large, sheltered beer garden into an urban oasis and when the rays decide to grace Orsman Road it's a perfect sun trap. During the warmer months hog roasts are hosted in the garden and DJs set up outdoors to provide the soundtrack to the summer. Situated at the edges of the Hoxton, Shoreditch, Dalston and Islington borders, The pub is at the heart of London's most vibrant areas, yet it offers something that is rare to find in the surrounding boroughs where the loyal regulars and those new to the area rub shoulders in a relaxed and friendly environment enjoying the unpretentious reasonably priced drinks including cask ales. As lovely as that all sounds, don't be mislead, The pub is best known for it's open minded entertainment, from movie screenings with free candy floss and popcorn in the winter to the famous sun kissed barbeques in the summer. On any night you might find hardcore Punks in Garage bands, an entire squad of Mods dancing to Northern Soul, singer songwriters for open mic sessions and DJ's spinning record in our back room .
