About the Space
Day Rate ( 8 HOURS ) - $300 The day rate is less than 6 hours at the hourly rate - ($55/hr x 6 hours = $330). --> Day rate discount cannot be applied in the system; please message for this discount rate to be applied. Hourly rate $50. -> FOUR HOUR minimum is required on the WEEKEND. -> THREE HOUR minimum is required on the weekdays. BRIGHT + CLEAN + AFFORDABLE The sun-filled and open space is conveniently located at Eglinton & Laird near the DVP. This accessibly priced studio features 450 square feet of working space, 12' high ceilings, and a large 7' x 9' SOUTH-facing window with black-out curtains installed. Within the 650 square feet of air-conditioned space, the studio includes a washroom and kitchenette with a bar fridge, microwave, utensils, kettle and coffeemaker. Open: 8 am-9 pm. ->FREE PARKING. IDEAL FOR: Photography Video - small productions Workshops, Gallery, or Casting calls SOUND RECORDING: The studio is not soundproof. Many clients, however, have rented the space to record sound with no issue. This is not your space if you require a studio with perfect recording quality. ACCESS: The studio is on the second floor and has only stair access. LOCATION: The studio is in TORONTO, not Richmond Hill, where another Industrial Street exists. In Google Maps, the area is considered to be in Toronto's East York neighbourhood, but locally, it is known as Leaside. PROHIBITED USE: Daylight Studio is NOT suitable for Live or DJ music or High-intensity/loud music video productions or use. STUDIO RENTAL INCLUDES: The equipment below comes standard with the studio rental. 4 large light stands 3 small light stands 1 "C" stand, with knuckle & two grip arms 1 telescopic background pole 2 "V" flats 4 sandbags, 2 full apple boxes Garment rack & steamer Mirror 14" x 50" (movable) 1 six-foot table (with tablecloths) 1 four-foot table (suitable for make-up) 6 chairs and 2 stools 3 AC cables three step stepladder Bluetooth speaker Continuous Lighting Package - no charge. Softbox Specifications: Two 20”x30”, with diffuser. Two 8”x36” (strip box), with diffuser and honeycomb grid. Each has four 150W (equivalent to an incandescent bulb) daylight-balanced blubs for a total output of 600W. ADDITIONAL GEAR: upon request, no charge. Stands, sandbags, chairs, tables, 8' ladder, boom. STROBE (FLASH) LIGHTING PACKAGE RENTAL*: 2400 w/s ProAcute pack 2 heads with standard reflectors 1 head extension pocket wizard 2 umbrella softboxes (small 20"x30", 5' octagon, 7' octagon) and two adapter rings $90 full day, $50 partial day. *Requires working knowledge of strobe equipment. The host was super kind and keeps his space very clean and ready for use. It was thoroughly cleaned and well kept and there was additional equipment which really helped. Would come again. The only downfall is the inconvenience of the stairs when you’re bringing in a lot of equipment. It’s not the easiest to work with.

This is a great space for intimate shoots. I have rented this studio twice and Horst has consistently offered a great experience - good room features and clear communication leading up to the rental day.

Horst is a responsive host and explained the studio well. Environmental concerns were pointed out - the dog shelter nearby for example example which did give us periodic waves of barking and the car noises. I asked my cameraman about this review and he cited the rule about having to put everything back in the place it was found as a hinderance when the time is paid for. There is reasonable order verses carelessness. Upon arrival, when I saw a couple of spots looking at the table cloths I took photos in case we were blamed but it could be argued that the photo could have been taken at the start or the end. There is nothing to be done about the location other than stating before the first visit the optimal trip plan, subway station, bus number north, which are details I learned once already there and after taking a longer route. I could have asked but the less mystery the better. Eyes can glaze over looking at a lot or rules and policies, like signing a lease. Add-ons that bump up the price after the fact should be verboten. Taxes I get, but insurance or clean up fees should be built into the posted asking cost. Interesting that we enter one end of the structure and walk the entire length of the building to the unit when especially after dark we might find the loading door propped unattended because someone else is also bringing something in or wheeling it out. Also not much can be done about a second floor unit with no elevator. We managed but I might have been naïve about that just because I made the climb. I'll paraphrase one of my actresses who said the long walk through the building was like a, "fun house." The space itself was fine.
