The new Sony HDR-AS50 Action Cam was introduced at CES 2016, and is an updated FullHD action camera that comes with a waterproof case that makes the camera waterproof down to 60 metres. The HDR-AS50 features an 11.1 megapixel sensor, which can be used for stills photography, as well as 4K timelapse video creation. The camera has an updated interface, with updated buttons and an updated menus system designed to make the camera easier to use.
The bottom of the camera is now flat so that it can stand up on it's own, whereas the previous version was curved, and there is now a standard tripod socket on the bottom. The HDR-AS50 uses the Sony NP-BX1 battery, that is shared with a number of Sony Cyber-shot cameras, which should make finding a spare easy.
