About Supernatural

Eric Kripke created Supernatural and it first premiered on September 13, 2005, on The WB. The show later moved to its follow-up channel, The CW. It is a dark fantasy drama starring Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles playing the roles of Sam and Dean Winchester, respectively. The storyline revolves around the brothers fighting against all kinds of supernatural creatures such as demons, ghosts, and monsters.

Produced by Warner Bros. Television in collaboration with Wonderland Sound and Vision, the pilot episode garnered an estimated 5.69 million viewers, leading The WB to greenlight it for a full season commission. Initially planned for three seasons, Kripke extended it to five, and it soon aired for 15 seasons in total.

By its 11th season, Supernatural was the longest-running American live-action fantasy show. The show’s 15th and final season, which consisted of 20 episodes, started airing on November 19th, 2020.

Supernatural gained a devoted fan base, with an active online presence and fan fiction stories spawned based on the show's characters. From Winchester brothers Dean and Sam (known as Wincest) to Dean Winchester and Castiel (Destiel) to numerous other character combinations, the writers made multiple references to these mashups in the series. For instance, episode 200 mentions Wincest, Destiel, and Sam and Castiel's pair (Sastiel).

On June 23rd, 2018, Mayor Steve Adler of Austin Texas declared it 'Supernatural Day' to celebrate the show's season 14 renewal. It was an ode to Ackles and Padalecki, the series stars, who are both from Austin. The celebration included charity events and recognized Supernatural for drawing the best fans in the world to the city.

The Winchester brothers Dean and Sam, together with their father John, hail from Lawrence, Kansas in the USA. Nevertheless, as they embark on their mission to hunt down monsters, they journey through various parts of the United States, quickly passing through cities to track down and eradicate paranormal evil.

The challenge of actually filming on site in such a variety of places, especially with the Winchesters having visited multiple towns, cities, and graveyards through the show's nearly 15-year run would be an enormous logistical and production feat. So then where exactly was Supernatural filmed?

Just as it often is in Hollywood, the answer is the adaptable city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Although the pilot was shot in Los Angeles, primary filming moved to Vancouver.
