Where was Paul Blart: Mall Cop filmed?

Residing in West Orange, New Jersey, Paul Blart shares a home with his mother (Shirley Knight) and young daughter Maya (Raini Rodriguez). Determined to become a member of the New Jersey State Police, he undergoes training at the police academy. However, due to his hypoglycemia, he collapses before completing the exam.

While on duty at the West Orange Pavilion Mall, Blart senses something amiss and decides to investigate. Upon entering the elevator, he quickly realizes that the phone has been disconnected. Without warning, a group of criminals who have seized control of the mall ambush him inside the elevator.

This scene was filmed at South Shore Plaza, a popular shopping center situated in Braintree, Massachusetts, which draws in many shoppers from the South Shore area as well as other regions. The mall has more than 200 stores and restaurants to choose from, and it's easy to get to by major highways and public transportation, so it's a convenient place to visit for both locals and tourists.

Commander James Kent (Bobby Cannavale) arrives at the scene with a SWAT team under his command. Interestingly, Kent was a former classmate and bully from Blart's childhood, who now orders Blart to back off and let the police handle the situation. Undeterred, Blart refuses to comply and decides to take matters into his own hands by attempting a daring rescue. Despite being vastly outnumbered, Blart fights against Simms' (Keir O'Donnell) crew with improvisation skills, taking them down one by one. His efforts lead him to discover credit card codes that are hidden in invisible ink on the burglars' arms, revealing that their nefarious plans extend far beyond just robbing the bank.

Some of these scenes were filmed at Northshore Mall, a premier shopping destination situated in Peabody, Massachusetts, just 15 miles north of Boston. While the SWAT team carries out the raid on the mall, Blart commandeers a display minivan and sets off in pursuit of Simms along with Kent. Their chase leads them all the way to the airport, where Simms is attempting to flee to the Cayman Islands. Blart confronts Simms and after a brief scuffle, he triumphs over him by handcuffing him. However, their victory is short-lived as Kent suddenly reveals his true allegiance by pulling his gun on Blart, disclosing that he was conspiring with Simms all along.

The airport was originally established as a military airfield in 1941 and was later converted into a general aviation airport in the 1950s.
