Winter is Coming Wedding
What a glorious theme! Winter is Coming is synonymous with the Game of Thrones series. See how magical a wedding based on this idea can be.
What to Look for in a Venue for a Winter Is Coming Wedding
The inspiration for the Winter Is Coming is from the classic hit HBO TV series Game of Thrones. Since the entire premise of the theme centers around winter, it is reasonable to presume the wedding venue is outdoors. Couples planning a winter wedding should choose outdoor venues that get little to medium-heavy snowfall to fit the theme.
The wedding venue should not be difficult to access in the snow since many guests will travel to the area to be part of your big day. You may also have to ensure enough accommodation for all guests if it snows and the roads are closed off.
Color Palettes for a Winter Is Coming Wedding
Winter is Coming wedding color palettes should be reminiscent of the snow, the Stark family from Game of Thrones, and their majestic and noble bearing. These wedding colors should signify their house colors: gray, sage green, white, ivory, and teal blue. You can also add icy blue and pearl white to add to the magnificence of the wedding and reception décor.
Couples can opt for winter florals with native greens to add color to the overall wedding color palette. There are other ways also that color can be infused in the wedding with the somber colors, like tans, browns, deep wood, and more. These colors compliment each other and tie together nicely.
Details for a Winter Is Coming Wedding
The theme of Winter Is Coming is not very widely used in most wedding celebrations. Most Game of Thrones fans choose the entire book series as the theme and tend to incorporate plenty of elements from each of the great houses. Since the wedding theme is only Winter Is Coming, it is best to be highly selective about the components and décor items to add.
It is also essential that your guests understand the theme and ensure that they do not mistake it for Game of Thrones. Think about it – they could mistakenly dress up in Lannister House colors instead of House Stark colors and might get embarrassed about it.
Table Setting Style for a Winter Is Coming Wedding
The table setting style should be reminiscent of the countless scenes in the books and the TV series where the Stark family have chosen their meals. These would include pewter or steel wine goblets and water glasses, mismatched purple or blue glasses for cocktails, golden candelabras with white candles for illumination, and a gray table runner on a wooden table.
The chairs should have the dire wolf sigil of House Stark and a tall flower vase in gold or copper filled with winter florals and native greens as the centerpiece. The gold and silver cutlery can be tied with a blush ribbon and placed on brown and gold dinner plates and quarter plates. You could also put a small ceremonial horn next to each plate for added drama.
Budget for a Winter Is Coming Wedding
While it is excellent to host winter weddings, you have to be careful about a few aspects that may raise the cost of the wedding. Since it is winter and it will be snowing, you will need to pay for additional heating for your guests. Outdoor heaters will add a lovely cozy feel.
You may have to include heaters in the entire reception area and will also need to provide elderly guests with some shawls and blankets in case they feel extra cold. Apart from the heating, you will need to host the reception indoors since the temperatures may drop further as the sun sets, and you may also experience additional snowfall.
Wedding Dresses and Accessories for a Winter Is Coming Wedding
Brides can opt for luxurious off-shoulder or sleeveless wedding dresses in white or ivory, thick fabric like velvet, and a fishtail skirt with tulle and chiffon to look ethereal. You can also select lacework or latticed patterns for the designs. Since it will be cold, brides can add to the Winter Is Coming theme by pulling on a teal cape lined with faux wolf fur like all the Starks in Game of Thrones.
For accessories, a chunky silver necklace with a black stone (think Sansa Stark and her chain jewelry), thick silver bracelets at the wrists, and dangling silver and black stone earrings. Hair can be in beach waves or braided like the Starks, with a string of black gemstones through them for added drama.
Groom Style for a Winter Is Coming Wedding
Grooms have a lot of room to play around since some of the Stark men were quite fashionable throughout the series. Grooms can think of Robb Stark while planning the attire, with his black, brown, teal, and sage green colors. If you do not want to opt for dark colors, you could also think of a teal suit that goes well with the overall wedding décor and fits with all the wedding shades.
Grooms can think of a teal blue suit with a white shirt, a ceremonial dagger at the hip, a flask for a dram, and a sword to look the part of the Starks. To add to the symmetry of the couple, just like the bride, the groom can also pull on a teal cape lined with faux wolf fur to soften the look a little bit.
Wedding Invitations for a Winter Is Coming Wedding
Simple black and white with gold and teal wedding invitations will look stylish yet classy for a formal wedding and reception. The wedding invitations can be in cursive calligraphy, gold lettering, or deep teal to offset the stark background (pun intended!)
Couples can also choose between black backgrounds with white letters for a striking contrast color scheme. However, black backgrounds do not leave any room for motifs, characters, and any significant emblems or sigils you may want on the invite. With a plain background, couples can choose a dire wolf sigil (like the House Stark) to ensure all guests understand the theme.
Wedding Cake Ideas for a Winter Is Coming Wedding
A Winter Is Coming wedding cake should be snowy white with the house colors in sage green, teal, and gray. Instead of choosing a mix of colors, it is best to have each shade prominently displayed as part of the cake décor. Couples can choose white on silver cake décor to make the cake minimalist yet elegant.
Other fabulous House Stark cake ideas are hand painted sigils of the House of Stark in silver and gold. These are unique to the books and show and are not usually chosen for cake themes. Couples can also select a teal and green wedding cake with winter florals in icing to ensure the Winter Is Coming theme is appropriately reflected throughout.
Wedding Photo Shoot Ideas for a Winter Is Coming Wedding
A Winter Is Coming wedding is meant to be highly regal, noble, and strong. The House Stark stands for family unity, and the photo shoot should be reminiscent of these virtues. You can have some magnificent wedding photos with real wolves (if possible) or any pet huskies you have. While huskies are pretty goofy, they can look majestic and pass off as royal-trained Siberian wolves.
Another gorgeous wedding photo shoot idea is an outdoor event in the middle of the woods, with a silver sword in one hand and a bouquet to show strength and valor. Grooms can also wear faux fur shrugs or coats and pose with their brides like Lord Ned and Lady Catelyn Stark.
Winter is Coming – a Game of Thrones Wedding
With real wolves, a snowy forest setting, a bride with a sword (amazing!) and a mix of medieval and modern details, today’s Game of Thrones wedding inspiration shoot from Warmphoto shows how to incorporate your favourite series into your wedding day with tasteful style.
From Warmphoto – “This winter wedding story was inspired by the Game of Thrones series. Our beautiful couple and all the creative team are really in love with its bright and unique characters. The main inspiration for this editorial is the Stark family: strong and noble.
For floral design, Flower Girl chose wood, fur and metal to mix medieval motifs with modern wedding elegance. Stylist Elen White used silver for the bride’s manicure and accessories and added a metal hairpiece to a wave and braided hairstyle inspired by Catelyn Stark.
In the setting, we found a fairytale place in a beautiful forest and even some wolves – a symbol of the Stark family and even a symbol of a new family farming. Anastasia from T Dress created gorgeous mantles to add a special moment to the ceremony – the groom covers his bride with a mantle like he covers her with his love, protection, and care.
We aimed to show that it is always possible to add elements of your favourite series for inspiration and details to your wedding, without turning it into a masquerade!
