Modern Rustic Wedding
The colours of the countryside and the sheer openness of the fields where the wedding takes place make this inspirational wedding photo shoot an absolute beauty! From the bride’s stunning gown to the creative and simple cake, we can’t say any more, other than you’ve got to take a look!
Details for a Modern Rustic Wedding
A modern rustic wedding style typically favours a neutral colour palette to achieve an airy and soft appeal. But to capture the venue’s intimate aesthetic, make sure the wedding colours and design you pick match the natural surroundings for a more authentic vibe.
Modernly rustic styles combine the raw and organic charm of a pastoral setting with a modern wedding theme's simple yet elegant details. Think of lush greenery with pops of minimal soft blooms and unfinished wood furniture mixed with crystalware and golden cutlery for additional shine and sparkle. It’s also hard not to fall in love with the elegant calligraphy thrown here and there, but don’t overdo it, so it doesn’t look messy and disorganised.
What to Look for in Venue for a Modern Rustic Wedding
Choose from a range of rustic wedding venues, like barns, farms, and ranches, for cozy and casual nuptials. Aside from their informal setting and countryside locations, these spaces have built-in rustic elements and atmosphere. That way, you don’t need to spend much on décor to dress them up to your desired style.
Campgrounds, wineries, vineyards, and mountain lodges are other suitable locations for your big day. But you may check out industrial sites, warehouses, museums, and art galleries for indoor spaces. Their unique architectural structures also lend themselves to rusting-inspired celebrations. You can just add new features and a few décor details for a modern twist.
Table Setting Style for a Modern Rustic Wedding
Setting your reception table is a great way to show off your stylish tastes in a cozy environment. But keep it simple, as it’s easy to go overboard with signage and clutter your wedding space. Remember, less is more with a modern rustic wedding style.
Instead of going all out with an intricate floral arrangement, massive vases, or fresh, colourful flower centrepieces, create a focal point with white wedding flowers, dried twigs, and lush greenery. Tea-stained napkins and a eucalyptus garland also make a statement on your tablescape, while golden vintage cutlery and green vintage glassware blend perfectly with an unfinished wooden table and mismatched chairs.
Dresses & Accessories for a Modern Rustic Wedding
The best thing about wedding dresses for a modern rustic style is that they can easily be elegant and rustic at the same time. If you want to skip the traditional white gown for your dreamy day, you can opt for off-white tones, like ivory or almond, that go well with any accessory.
Try a classic ivory wedding dress that features blooming embroidery and a full tulle skirt. Inspired by your favourite fairytale romance, this soft and romantic bridal gown is lightweight and breathable. It gives the bride plenty of freedom to move around without hassle, walk conveniently down the aisle, and dance the night away at the reception.
Groom Style for a Modern Rustic Wedding
For the groom’s attire, you want an outfit that matches a relaxed atmosphere and the soothing neutral tones of your rustic venue. If you’re a huge proponent of the classic black tuxedo, you may have to reconsider your decision, as it may be too formal for a casual setting.
Sure, there are various suit and tuxedo styles to complement your farm or barn-themed wedding. But a rustic attire allows you to step out of the traditional and go for something that makes you feel comfortable and reveals your personality. You can ditch the jacket and wear suspenders or a vest, with or without a bow tie – it’s all up to you.
Bouquets & Boutonnieres for a Modern Rustic Wedding
One of the best things about a modern, rustic wedding style is its versatility. Besides an array of themes and designs that work well with it, it also suits various wedding flowers and floral arrangements. It can be as simple as a two-flower bouquet or an elaborate combination of roses, peonies, ferns, and succulents.
A loose, oversized bouquet filled with greenery, dried vines, white flowers, and other botanical features is sure to make a statement. It gives off a laid-back vibe and is easy to DIY, just like the groom’s boutonniere that looks sophisticated with a blue button-up shirt and suspenders.
Wedding Invitations for a Modern Rustic Wedding
Wedding invitations set the tone and give your guests a pleasant sneak peek of what awaits them on your big day. That’s why it’s vital to pay attention to every detail and overall design to ensure it reflects your modern, rustic-inspired wedding. Pick your ink colour and envelope, and include your special touches so that the visitors can see your personality through those invitation cards.
For this wedding, we absolutely adore the natural linen stationery adorned with a romantic script. It didn’t require elaborate florals, elegant accessories, or additional elements. The beautiful calligraphy makes up for everything and can take the design to the next level.
Wedding Cake Ideas for a Modern Rustic Wedding
Wedding cakes are an essential reception centrepiece that deserves the couple’s undivided attention. From the flavors and fillings to toppers and frostings, you need to plan what you want to go on the inside and what it should look like on the outside. Pick a multi-tiered cake with buttercream frosting if you’re looking for a towering showstopper. Then decorate this yummy dessert with wildflowers and greenery for an organic look.
Naked cakes are also becoming a popular option for modern rustic wedding styles due to their laid-back appeal. Their exposed layers give them character and provide you more room to design your cake the way you want. Place it on a wooden holder and embellish the base with eucalyptus leaves, topped with white blooms.
Wedding Photo Shoot Ideas for a Modern Rustic Wedding
Wedding photos are tangible heirlooms you can treasure for years. Although the special moments, like your first kiss and first dance, will permanently be embedded in your memory, you’ll still want to keep pictures to immortalise the events on your big day.
Capture everyone’s raw emotions as the bride walks down the aisle or the groom’s reaction when he sees his bride for the first time in her wedding dress. Take shots of the décor, wooden accents, unique cake, and invitation. Talk to your photographer to snap pics of candid moments and take photos of the bride and groom against a picturesque natural background.
Outdoor Wedding Ideas for a Modern Rustic Wedding
Most outdoor spaces exude rustic appeal and don’t require excessive decoration to achieve the look and feel you want. For example, farms, mountain lodges, forests, and wineries already have a rustic edge and elegant ambiance. They only need a bit of touch-up to suit your style.
Use the natural elements in your surroundings and play around with flowers and vines to add shape, texture, and dimension to your reception and ceremony. Say your ‘I dos’ in front of an arch adorned with white linens and flowers, or dine on a table draped with cascading greenery. Use natural wood and elevate any simple design with wildflowers and bundles of dried twigs.
Modernly Rustic Texas Hill Country Wedding
This exquisite wedding, editorial is a raw, organic approach to a modernly rustic look. Inspired by the natural scenery of the Texas Hill Country, Sharon Nicole Photography and To Be Wed couldn’t have created a more perfectly beautiful look for this setting!

From Two Be Wed – “Our muted palette pulled from a locally found tumbleweed – sand, honey, chestnut, rose and wild blue, allowing the outdoors to really shine.
The Prairie was the ideal location to capture the open fields and rolling hills that we love about the Texas countryside. Each detail had a rustic feel with a minimal modern design – naked cake adorned with fresh greenery, natural linen stationery adorned with romantic script, tea-stained napkins and a full eucalyptus Garland to anchor our telescope. Wild lush greenery was the star of our floral design, with pops of minimal soft blooms.
The Cascada gown from BHLDN was modest in design, but full of movement and beauty. Overall a modern nod to the raw beauty of the countryside!”
